We have been customers of Sitar for over 15 years. We regularly visit family in Brisbane and it has been our favorite Indian restaurant where we have shared good food with friends and family in a clean, welcoming, and friendly restaurant. Unfortunately, our latest visit in December of 2019 was extremely disappointing and did not reflect the standards we were used to at the restaurant. The restaurant was not too busy when we arrived, and there was a noticeable absence of staff. Nobody greeted us for some time but eventually we were shown to a table. We immediately noticed that the table was not covered with a white table cloth which had been the standard up to this visit, and was in fact rather dirty. It had been a little while since we had been to the restaurant previously, so thought perhaps it was just one minor item that we could overlook. We should have left at this point. We were left with one menu, and no wine list for the two of us. After a rather lengthy wait a waiter dressed in jeans and a t-shirt wearing a baseball cap approached and asked if we were ready to order. I asked if there was a wine list and he said it was at the back of the menu. I pointed out to him that it was not there and he abruptly said he'd get us another menu (no apology). He disappeared for over 5 minutes, then came back with the menu and proceeded on to take an order at another table. When he returned to take our order he didn't wait for me to finish speaking before interrupting with "Mild, Medium, or Hot?" on each ordered curry item, quite rude and disrespectful. The food arrived and I would say it was pretty average. It was rather more bland than I remember from previous visits, and warm rather than hot. I would not say that it stood out as being anything special unfortunately. During our meal there were seven tables that finished eating around us and the patrons left the restaurant. None of the tables were cleared promptly and most of our time there we were surrounded by tables with dirty plates and uneaten food left on them. When some tables were cleared they were not wiped clean with new place settings laid out. At the end of our meal we waited for a while for the waiter to notice we had finished and to clear the table and bring the bill, however we were not surprised when this did not happen. I went to the front counter to pay the bill and we left feeling disappointed that one of our favorite restaurants had fallen so starkly in standards and quality. We will not be returning in...
Read moreSitar used to be one of the best curry places in Brisbane easy. So we decided to revisit it excited with the memories of the past. Well sadly Sitar of today is a different experience now. We walked in to a half empty restaurant and was asked if we enjoyed our meal directing us to the service counter to pay. I explained no we haven’t eaten yet, can we get a table for two. Admittedly we were promptly lead to a table given our menus. The menus were greasy to touch and the interior had a tired look the light gloomy. The waiter came back with a warm bottle of water and plonked it on the table then walked off, no glasses or queries. Upon returning I asked if we can get some glasses and that we were ready to order. Couple of entree’s, onion pakora, garlic naan, rice, lamb rogan Josh , paneer tikka masala. The waiter was punching it in electronically on a pad which for me was reassuring that the order would be right. But just to be safe I politely asked to have it read back to me and after doing so was all good. Food arrived quickly, papadums and pakoras first. Pakoras were huge and tasted great. Then came the rest of the order, amazingly a sarg paneer instead of the paneer tikka masala after making sure the order was correct. The curries were tasteless the bread soggy the rice gluggy.
We couldn’t believe how bad and low Sitar had fallen! I told the waiter we got the wrong curry and he was nice about it taking it off the bill. We left our table with everything half eaten paid the bill vowing never to return. A complete waist of time and money and a lesson about going down...
Read moreWorst Indian food I have had in my life. And I love Indian cuisine and have tried a lot of good and bad places.
First of all the delivery was a bit late - but not by much and it wasn't worth complaining about - but everything else was.
I have never left a bad review - but this place deserves it.
The onion pakora was completely falling apart and greasy, I dug chunks out and while it had some nice flavour I could not finish it with how badly it was falling apart/greasy.
That was the only thing that was remotely nice about the food.
The Malai Kofta I ordered was medium and it was mild at the best - no spice at all, it was bland and so sweet.
If I had called for delivery I should've asked if it was spicy or sweet which is my fault.
But I have had sweet Malai Kofta before and it was fine, I didn't like it that much but it was okay.
This was horrible.
The Aloo naan was also very sweet and bland, the naan was not the right texture and was quite doughy.
The mint lassi was gross - that is the best way to describe it, I had a sip and almost spat it out and that was all I could deal with.
There were full on chunks of mint in it, the texture wasn't right and as I said before it tasted disgusting.
I will never order from here again.
I paid about $40 through delivery with a 10% discount I earned with uber eats - I should not have used my discount...
