I have dined at Hyderabad Flavours in Annerley a few times in the past, and overall, my experiences have been fairly decent. The restaurant has a good reputation for serving authentic Hyderabadi cuisine, and previously, I’ve enjoyed the flavors and ambiance enough to return. However, my recent visit and takeaway experience this Tuesday left me quite disappointed and has prompted me to share a detailed review.
This time, we placed a fairly large takeaway order – the Chicken 65 Biryani in the bigger bucket pack, which came to around $211. As always, the front-of-house staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I truly appreciate their professionalism and the warm manner in which they handled our order. They were attentive, helpful, and ensured the pickup process was smooth, which initially gave us a positive impression.
However, the experience started to shift once we brought the biryani home and began to eat. To our surprise, the chicken in the biryani had an unpleasant smell that raised concerns about its freshness. It didn’t have the usual flavor or texture we’ve come to expect from this dish, and unfortunately, the chicken seemed off, as if it hadn’t been properly stored or was nearing spoilage. This was quite alarming, especially considering the high price point of the order.
Moreover, the portion size did not seem to match the value of what we paid. For $211, we expected a generous quantity that could comfortably serve a group. Instead, the quantity felt underwhelming and not justifiable for the cost. In previous visits, the food has generally been reasonable in both taste and value, but this particular order was lacking on both fronts.
As someone who has supported this restaurant multiple times, this experience was genuinely disheartening. While I still hold appreciation for the courteous staff at the front counter, the quality of food – particularly with such a significant order – needs to be more consistent. At the very least, freshness should never be compromised, especially for meat-based dishes like Chicken 65 Biryani.
With some improvements in food quality control, portion sizes, and ingredient freshness, Hyderabad Flavours could remain a great destination for authentic biryani lovers in Brisbane. The flavors have potential, and the service is commendable – but maintaining consistency is crucial, particularly for loyal customers.
I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback constructively. I would love to continue supporting this local restaurant, but only if the necessary...
Read moreWe had our lunch here on last Monday, prior to going to this place we have checked their website and selected few items in mind. When we reach store and ordering food the price difference is too higher than what it was showing in their website. I asked their employe, he said management is aware of the issue but no one looking to fix that. I understood due to inflation prices might gone up. We ordered couple of items and requested to make it as spicy. Both items were no species and no salt very bad experience. We drove around 40km to visit this place and had very worst experience.
We had some left-over food and requested for take away container. The guy from counter said it's $1 for container. This is next level, they said as per management we are taking $1 for container which is not making any sense of it. Then I ask him If order my food as take away you still charge extra $1 for container, then he said no. We only charge on menu price. Then why you guys charging $1 for container which is not making any sense.
Again they said same thing, management told them to charge $1 for container and they are doing it so.
This is for owner/ Management: This is not fare to charge extra from people. It's not about paying $1. It's all about...
Read moreIt's a little restaurant run by an indian/sri lankan family (not sure where they are from). have been going here for the past 2 years. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has gone down (less spice and flavour, much more salty, less ingredients in curry- used to be fully of veggie and chicken but now it's mostly sauce), and the price of the dishes has gone up. My Indian friend also mentioned that it's not very nice anymore. Prob a change of chef? This has gotten worse since covid has started. Used to go there once to twice a week, now it's prob once every month/two since it's not very nice. Wish they wouldn't try to save on money by giving less actual ingredients, making the portions smaller (the bowls for takeaway have reduced in size), and use more salt to cover the flavours. Quite disappointed
Hygiene of shop isn't that great but tolerable. Small shop so no distancing.
Dishes I usually order are chicken tikka masala, naan, butter chicken, biryani. Note the normal biryani only has ONE chicken drumstick, if you want more meat (or shredded pieces of meat), you need to order the more expensive Biryani 65 on the menu!
price is around 13-15AUD per dish. Used to be 10-13AUD :( (with a...
