Upon my recent visitation to Jak + Hill, nestled quaintly along the charming precinct of Astor Terrace in Brisbane, I found myself enveloped in a gustatory experience so profound, it bordered on the transcendent. This establishment, with its aesthetically pleasing interior and aura of understated sophistication, is a veritable sanctuary for the discerning brunch enthusiast.
I partook in a breakfast ensemble of such exquisite composition that I remain, days later, utterly rhapsodic. The scrambled eggs, luxuriously silken and folded with masterful delicacy, were paired with high-protein baked beansâa leguminous delight that did more than satisfy my nutritional ambitions; they exhilarated my bowels with an enthusiastic vigor rarely encountered in the realm of breakfast cuisine. The balance of savoury robustness and subtle herbaceous undertones within the beans spoke to an intentionality often absent in such humble fare.
Equally commendable was the fried sausage, a torpedo of umami that yielded to the bite with an oral tenderness so profound, it could only be described as culinary euphoria. Its succulence was not of the greasy, over-seasoned ilk one dreads at lesser establishments, but rather a carefully calibrated dance of fat, spice, and proteinaceous bliss.
Service, too, was rendered with courteous efficiency and an air of quiet competence. The staff navigated the morning rush with an elegance that betrayed no stressâonly a sincere commitment to their patronsâ comfort and satisfaction.
In summation, Jak + Hill does not merely serve breakfast; it curates a morning ritual imbued with warmth, nourishment, and an almost spiritual sense of contentment. I departed not only satiated, but rejuvenated, and dare I say, existentially...
Read moreWe had a very enjoyable breakfast here on a late Saturday morning as we were staying nearby. The cafe is located in an area with mostly offices and no shops, so it was pretty dead on the weekend but at least the café wasn't busy. Seems to be one of the few cafés open later on the weekend in the area.
Location: Cafe is spacious and has an outdoor section too, but surrounding area didn't have much of an atmosphere on the weekend due to surrounding offices being closed and lack of retail shops
Decor: Cheerful and pleasant, fresh flowers on tables, no particular aesthetic
Food: We were a group of four for breakfast and enjoyed everything we ordered. Breakfast board for 2 (more than enough for 2 people sharing), mushrooms on toast, hotcakes. Would recommend for a decent breakfast/brunch. Also had nice coffee and fresh juices.
Service: Friendly and relaxed
Restroom/toilet: Only has one restroom (with a warning that it gets clogged easily) despite the café having a decent amount of seating/tables. They could probably do with another restroom. Would also recommend they do not place a seat/table right beside the door to the restroom..maybe a screen or row of plants would be better to separate the restroom door from the...
Read moreI went there this morning with my two sons for a birthday breakfast. Friendly staff and ok ambience. Menu fine. Started with three coffees which were fine though not spectacular. Two boys had usual eggs, toast, smashed advocado etc. I ordered the waffles. wooooooh - so the waffle was thick but only the top was cooked and inside was basically 'playdough' and inedible. I returned it politely and no trouble them exchanging for another dish selection. However, the 'explanation' was it is a Belgian waffle and thick. Sorry, now I have three degrees none of which I needed to inform them that the batter is used to make a 'bread like' product and uncooked is uncooked and absolutely nothing to do with the thickness of the waffle. So I am afraid I cannot patronise this establishment again. Friendly staff is fine but I cannot consume humans however nice they are and really not into cannibalism just yet. Learn to make Waffles or...
