I don't usually write restaurant reviews, but after visiting Kinn+Derm, I couldn't help but share my experience – especially since we ended up going two weeks in a row! That alone should speak volumes, but let me take you through what made each visit so memorable.
First Visit – A Stunning Introduction Our first time at Kinn+Derm left a lasting impression. We ordered the chicken cashew nut, tom yum seafood, and beef massaman – each dish absolutely packed with flavour and cooked to perfection.
Chicken Cashew Nut: The chicken was tender, the sauce perfectly balanced between sweet and savoury, and the crunch from the cashews gave it that extra something. It’s a classic, but they really elevated it.
Tom Yum Seafood: This dish was an explosion of flavour. The broth was rich, tangy, spicy, and deeply aromatic – exactly what a good tom yum should be. The seafood was fresh and generously portioned.
Beef Massaman: The star of this meal. It was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the curry sauce was so rich and complex we were fighting over the last spoonful. Subtle spices, creamy coconut, and just the right amount of sweetness – it was comfort food at its finest.
After that experience, we couldn’t stop thinking about the food… so naturally, we came back the following week.
Second Visit – Just As Good, If Not Better This time, we went in with high expectations – and somehow, Kinn+Derm surpassed them again. We ordered the crispy pork belly, pad see ew, and Chiang Mai gyoza.
Crispy Pork Belly: Honestly one of the best versions I’ve had. The skin was crackling crisp, while the meat remained juicy and flavorful. It was served with a tangy dipping sauce that complemented it beautifully.
Pad See Ew: Comforting, rich, and full of wok hei (that smoky, charred flavour from a hot wok). The noodles were perfectly chewy, and the balance of sweet soy and vegetables made every bite satisfying.
Chiang Mai Gyoza: A bit of a surprise hit – these were little parcels of joy. Lightly crisped on the outside, juicy inside, and paired with a unique dipping sauce that had a hint of northern Thai flair. A great appetizer or snack between bites.
Final Thoughts There are plenty of Thai restaurants around, but Kinn+Derm stands out for all the right reasons. The attention to detail in every dish, the bold and authentic flavours, the consistent quality, and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere – it all adds up to a truly memorable dining experience.
We went back two weeks in a row, and if we’re being honest, we’re already planning a third visit. If you’re looking for a place where every single dish is full of flavour and made with love, this is it.

Can I just say that there was a time when this place was amazing. The food tasted spectacular and the service was fantastic. Unfortunately Kinn+Derm Chermside has seen better days.
From the moment we entered we were questioned by the staff "Hi what do you want" it sounded more like a repetitive statement than an actual question. And then a mumbled “..you follow me now." As it was busy we expected service to be slow however while there were plenty of staff around to take our order none were ready, saying they didn't have an order tablet with them and then rushing off to get it but then stopping to clear a table. When asking the waiter questions about the menu or was clear that they had no idea how to answer our questions. A possible language barrier or they were not bothered to ask anyone who actually knew how to answer our questions.
The food was quite average and lacking in the usual Thai food flavour bombs. It all tasted quite bland. Even the Pad Thai which is usually so beautifully balanced was so sweet and tasteless. The money you pay for these dishes was really not worth it unfortunately.
The choice of gluten free options was very few. The staff were not very well educated on allergies so if you have any concerns about this then this restaurant is certainly not the one for you.
I just hope they can get back to what they used to be. I have heard many others personally and through the grapevine say the same which is why I thought I would try again to see if it just depends on the day. But it was the same as the last time I went and the same as everything I have...
Read moreLast night my partner and I came here for dinner as we have walked past many times and finally wanted to try it out. I ordered the prawn pad Thai and a Coke Zero and my partner ordered a chicken pad Thai and a bottle of sprite. We also ordered satay chicken skewers for an entree. We loved the entree, no complaints there. I requested for there to be no chilli jam in my prawn pad Thai . After ordering, a lady came out and told me that they aren’t able to remove the chilli jam as it’s pre mixed in. I asked how spicy it is and the lady recommended that if I can’t handle spice too well then to perhaps order something else which I told her I would. I decided to instead get the salmon carpacio ($15) and just a bowl of plain fried rice. However, when they brought over the food, they instead gave me a bowl of fried rice and the spicy salmon salad ($26). I tried to just eat it anyway, but wasn’t able to as it had like a pool of vinegar in it. No one came over to check how the food was and it was very busy. I ended up just eating the bowl of plain fried rice. My partner thought his chicken pad Thai was flavourless and ended up feeling very nauseous the rest of the night. I’m not usually one to leave bad reviews, but dinner cost us $73 and my partner ended up sick and all I ate was a bowl of fried rice as they gave me the wrong food (was very overwhelmed at the time so didn’t realise until I checked back on the...
