Located on the 2nd floor of Westfield, this was one of the most crowded restaurants in Chermside. There is a waiting list if you walk in. The host will write your name down.
Friendly service albeit the crowd. Empty tables were promptly filled with new diners.
Decent ambience and decor. Very stereotypical Chinese interior with lanterns and traditional tables. Probably looks like Singapore restaurants in the 80s. You will never find this decor anywhere in Singapore now. Lol.
Tiger beer pint under 10 was a huge plus for me.
We ordered:
Chili Crab - soft shell crab with a choice of 2 sauces and comes with fried buns (mantou). Which is almost a national dish, second to chicken rice. Chili crab sauce was too sour. They should balance it out with salt, sugar and MSG abit more. Otherwise it's a 7/10 for us. A little bit pricey at 30+.
Nasi Lemak - for 20+, it was quite good value. Huge serving of coconut rice, fried hard boil egg, fried anchovies, two fried chicken drumstick, either chicken or pork floss, cucumber and sambal. Can taste the preservatives in the sambal, was a bit disappointed that they don't make it from scratch. But it does take a bit of time to make good sambal. 7/10.
Combination Curry Laksa - this was surprisingly good value. Taste was good as well. Would've preferred more rempah and laksa taste if possible. Was abit on the watery bland-ish spectrum. But I would give it an 8/10.
Overall experience is an 8/10. Will be back to try the other dishes.
Also, just call the typhoon chicken, fried...
Read moreLittle Singapore in Westfield Chermside is a great place to go for a delicious and authentic Singaporean meal. The restaurant is very popular, so it's best to book in advance, especially if you're dining during peak hours. However, we didn't book and only had to wait for 10 minutes for a table, which was great.
We started with the Peking duck wraps, which were delicious. The wraps were steamed nicely and the accompanying hoisin-based sauce worked well with the Peking duck and the cucumber and spring onions. The Peking duck wraps are a great appetizer to share, and they're sure to get your taste buds tingling.
For our main courses, we ordered the chilli beef and the salt and pepper cuttlefish. The chilli beef was really flavor-packed, and the salt and pepper cuttlefish was perfectly cooked. We also ordered a side of fried rice, but we probably didn't need it, as the chilli beef was already quite filling.
To drink, we ordered the milk tea, which was a great accompaniment to the chilli beef. The milk tea was sweet and creamy, and it helped to balance out the spiciness of the chilli beef.
Overall, we had a great dining experience at Little Singapore. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and efficient, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend Little Singapore to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic...
Read moreMade an order over the phone, ordering the chicken Nasi Lemak, Seafood Laksa, Prawn curry with 2 rotis and Prawn Bao Bun for entree. Note this is for 3 individuals . On that call, the person recommend getting another dish. So then I got veggie stir fried noodles. Coming into the store I wait around for several minutes thinking somebody will assist me in either paying for my food or finding out where it is. I then see my food sitting on a table close to the door getting cold.
After taking it back home and preparing to eat, we notice that the Prawn Bao is quite empty and only had 1 prawn. Paying $10.80 for 1 single Bao I would have thought to have several Prawns or some substantial filling. The Nasi Lemak was left with only a sprinkling of peanut and anchovies and the stir fry noodles were flavourless with just the taste of oil.
I'm not very happy with the service or the quality of the food when taking away. I've sat in previously and portions and quality have been to a standard. I don't understand why taking away would have such a difference in food standard.
Ideally I would have liked to have a refund on my Prawn Bao thinking I could go back in, but only to find out they close at 8:30, I only took one bite and still to this day haven't...
