Lovely little cafe. However, it isn't as little as it seems. There is seating out back, which isn't plainly evident by way of signage, etc, but that wasnt an issue as staff were attentive. After having worked BOH hospo for many years & having to deal with the worst of humanity, I can say with absolute certainty that the food, service and atmosphere here is lovely.
I only ever eat at cafes who have an item or two on the menu that I don't know how to make myself. Little Hideout's menu has all thebrekky standards, a beautiful selection of sweets, and gets a little, but not overly, "adventurous." And it won't overwhelm you with choice either. I knew I'd be having the Turkish baked eggs,(Shakshuka?I can't remember) as soon as I looked at the menu. My sister had the French toast or waffles - something deliciously hedonistic, covered in berries & cream etc. I was jealous, but my eggs were sensational. My brother in law got the standard avo toast, and somehow they even made that look and taste good. Although, I was tempted to just say "let's go back to mine and I'll save us all some $$" when he said he was ordering, I let it slide due to the care given the rest of the menu.
In terms of atmos' , it is a bit small in the front and out the back isn't that much more than some astro turf n tables. They'd do well to mitigate the unpleasant effects of the QLD sun with some comprehensive shade-makers ala awnings, umbrellas, a sheet of canvas. A tarp. I don't usually wear my Akubra at the table, obviously, but I had to here as there was not adequate covering. I don't mind, but I did mind that my nieces either had to be in the sun or out of my loving gaze. I also didn't appreciate being seated by the back door and toilet door and kitchen door when I'd said my sis and her 3 infant kids would be joining me.
However, having worked in hospo, as I said, I can't fault this cafe. Sure, there are minor faults. Very minor faults, but I have only been there once. I will update this if I go again, but I don't need to go again to know that I will inevitably be drawn into going again just to have someone else make me eggs in a way that I've not learned to make myself yet.
Long story short, if you've got the attention span to read this far (mad props if you do, because I looove to waffle on), Little Hideout Cafe is definitely worth a look in if you enjoy food. Oh, and coffee. As far as the coffee goes, well, I take mine long and black, which is, some might say paradoxically, the hardest cup of coffee to get right, other than an espresso. Milknand sugar don't belong in coffee, in my opinion, unless it is instant or burnt.
Thus, I can't speak for their milky coffee, but their long black was perfect for my buds. Nice, subtle bitterness and a full tongued flavour that sublimed through my sinuses and filled my head with a sublime sense of satisfaction, momentarily subliming my capacity to pay attention to anything and everything else.
Highly...

I order bacon and scrambled eggs with normal cooked bacon (not crispy) and a side order of mushrooms (3 in total for $5:00), and yes I got crispy bacon that broke while trying to cut it. My wife ordered the special for the with double smoked bacon, the bacon rind was under cooked, it was like small cubes of fat on the plate. My coffee was only luke warm. Our meals came out at different times, and as usual mine was the last one and the first person was almost finished.
They like to be pet friendly, which is ok until the dog from the table next us decided to pee on the tree which was part of our table. I like dogs just not in a restaurant where I am having a meal. And if you have to bring your pet keep it under control.
As we were seated out the back and had to pass via the kitchen and toilet and to two freezers jammed into the walk way, this was off putting. One group of our party that arrived after us stood out the at the counter for a good three to four minutes before anyone noticed them and showed them to the table. The restaurant was maybe 40% full and there was six (6) staff members working. So will be going back to The Hideout Cafe, I hope that they hide it a lot better so we don't...
Read moreThis locals-only haunt (which I travelled across the river from New Farm to visit) boasts the alleged best smashed avo in Brisbane, with a browning newspaper clipping proudly framed and hung on the wall to verify the allegation. So, I would have been a certified member of DENSA if I didn't try that state-famous dish. It did not disappoint, resembling something so finely plated and decorated it would have trembled the hand of even the most eminent impressionist painter of Montmartre. This is a must-see destination for the smashed avo enthusiast (i.e., every woman I have ever dated). However, I prefer my smashed avo simple and whole, like a rustic Italian pasta dish. Good, fresh bread, a plump, just-picked avocado, a twist of lemon and a pinch of salt. Feta and dukka - thanks for your enthusiasm but you will not be needed today. Some people look hotter just in jeans and a t-shirt than dolled up on their wedding day - same goes...
