Cross Contamination and incompetent untrained staff... I went in 30min to close on 30 Dec 2024 to order a $5 cheese quesadilla with chorizo added. I was served by a tall tan young fella. When I got my quesadilla I noticed the cheese had not been melted at all, like he had literally just served me shredded cheese inside a tortilla.
At first I ignored it because I know what it's like to work in kitchen 30min to close and I know he's probably preoccupied...so I sat down at my table then my friends saw my quesadilla and commented that it looked sad and even I thought so too, so I brought it back to the worker and showed it to him. When I asked him to melt the cheese he made the lamest excuse that "the cheese won't melt because of the chorizo" like can't he just leave it in the press for longer so it melts through? I knew he had turned off the sandwich press early because they were closing in half an hr but he should still make sure the food is up to standard. And also it was a BS excuse, when I used to work at Mad Mex, we would leave the quesadilla in the press for a few more minutes if the press wasn't hot enough or if there's extra cheese or filling, so his excuse was invalid.
I then asked if he could remake it and he just stood there for 30secs like I had just asked him about rocket science...like bro, it's not that hard, also Mad Mex has a policy where you can replace a customer's meal for free if they aren't satisfied with the food. Did he even get any training?? Why was he hired if he can't even resolve something as simple as this? So I then called over the girl who was on grill for assistance since this guy was completely incompetent and I showed the quesadilla to her, and even she suggested to reheat the quesadilla till it melts!!
So then the guy took my quesadilla, scratches his face with his hand still looking confused as to what to do and left it in the sandwich press with it STILL IN THE PAPER BOWL!! Like 2 things he's done wrong: He touched his face with gloves on while handling food (cross contamination), then left a cardboard bowl inside the sandwich press!! Like omg how thick is this worker?? He should NOT be in the kitchen. When the girl on grill noticed her coworker had left the paper bowl with the quesadilla in the press, even she shook her head in disbelief.
Honestly, my first time seeing something like this. Can you please make sure your staff are properly trained and hire someone with common sense...when you're working in a kitchen, doing something foolish would only add to the risks and hazards of an already moderate to high risk work environment. Read moreI come here every now and again to pick up dinner every now and again on my way home and every time, without a doubt, it is amazing. The food. The service. The vibes. chefs kiss Immaculate. The food is pretty good for standard Mexican and they are on the ball for gluten freen and vegan alternatives (which taste amazing BTW as someone who usually has meat). The food is a little expensive (around $15 for a burrito if you get it with an 'exclusive' meat and guacamole) but is still around the price of other Mexi places like GyG for the same quality if nit better. Every time I have a great chat with the servers and the chefs and they feel like they are genuinely enjoying their time there. Someone needs to give these workers a raise because they are amazing. Even the newbies are really friendly and seem to be having fun. Hannah especially is always fun to talk to. She makes an effort to get to know your order and is generous with her servings. She is funny and amazing at customer service. I can't recommend this place more if you want a friendly environment with top tier westernised Mexican. And makes sure you keep your eyes open on their social media if you love a challenge cuz they got a 1kg burrito challenge which is always fun...

Went for the 2 for 1 promo and was told it wasn’t running anymore but decided to get food anyway as I’d missed it so much. Team seemed disorganised and the station with all the topping was very messy. Portion was so so small compared to what it used to be, I was so rushed by the staff making my meal that I had to keep interrupting to request my own ad ons as they were going so fast I wasn’t given a chance to say what I wanted on my meal!! My nachos were also so wet and soggy that I couldn’t pick any of the corn chips up, really not sure what happened there.
