Hubby and I both love Japanese food, so were very happy to visit Motto Motto at Garden City. We rarely venture over that side of town, so it was a chance to check it out. They greeted us, and explained the menu. I read that Motto Motto is owned by the same people as Sono at Portside, the upmarket Japanese restaurant. Apparently they have the same suppliers and same high standards of produce and cooking. They recommended the ramen to hubby, telling us the broth is cooked for twelve hours so is full of flavour. Which indeed it was. He had the red ramen, which is spicy and dotted with slow-cooked pork belly. The broth was spicy and delicious, and the pork was very tender. Hubby was a big fan of this dish, which had just the right amount of spice for his tastes. I chose the poke bowl on a bed of salad, though I think on rice would have been better. The yuzu dressing was citrusy, the fish was very fresh and the salad leaves ample. And there were edamame beans dotted throughout, which I loved. We shared a side of chicken karaage. Hubby doesn’t usually eat karaage, but he said he didn’t mind this one. He found it light and not greasy, so was a happy man. Oddly, as I am generally a huge fan, I didn’t enjoy this particular version. I found the coating a bit bready almost and very bland, and the chicken itself very dry. So as with all things in life, much depends on personal taste. I drank lychee lemonade, while hubby had the traditional version. They came in those funny shaped bottles with a marble on top. We had to get a staff member to open them for us! I liked the lychee flavour though it tended to linger on the palate a bit. We finished with the marble ice cream – a mixture of green tea and vanilla. This was very deliciously smooth and creamy, and I would happily have eaten another cup of it We both enjoyed our meal. And I would love to try a few more menu items like soft shell crab cloud rolls, or the seared salmon and avocado rice bowl another day. Or the potato salad, and fries with seaweed or the salmon cold soba noodles. Ah well, next time. So if you are after a tasty, flavoursome Japanese meal that’s friendly on the wallet, this is the place to come. The prices are very reasonable, and you get what you pay for – a healthy, tasty repast in a modern setting. Motto Motto can also be found at Chermside, Maroochydore and other locations. We had a pleasant evening and an...
Read moreVery bad customer service when it comes to handling customer order issues and refunding.
I ordered through their online ordering but the app said “there was an issue sending the order to the kitchen, please contact our friendly staff for assistance.” I approached the staff in the counter and told me to just order again through her (not online), i paid again and said I will be refunded the next day for the payment i did online. I even asked her to double check if my order online went through before i pay again. She checked but said no order of that in the queue. True enough, 2 orders were served to me (with a gap of 15mins) but I said I will not get the second one and just want my money back for that ‘repeat’ order. Nothing was refunded to me the next day until a week later. The following week, i had a chance to go to Garden City so I personally went to their store to tell them of the issue. The staff in the counter even asked why I waited for one week to tell them that i did not get a refund. Like blaming me for their lapses??? After telling the story and showing them proof that no refund took place, the male manager asked for my number and told me he will give me a call the next day but I did not get any. Lazy and all talk manager! So I called the following week and talked to a certain Linda, told her the story once again - give all the exact dates, times (it is very draining to do just to get a refund for something that is not my doing/fault), she asked for my phone number (again I have to tell them, what a great communication they have!) and said the refund will take a few days like 7-10 days. I waited till the 10th day for the refund to be made. No refund so I called again. Talking to Lin this time, she said i just go the store and they will give me back my money which is quicker. This is what should they have done on the first day I went there to dine rather asking me to pay again and wait for refund that did not ever come as this whole refund thing stressed me out by just talking to them - incompetent, inconsiderate, lazy staff and manager!!!
I hope to be refunded when i go there this week. And will never eat on this restaurant again for the very poor customer service...
Read more^^ Original review was 5stars
But I've since changed it to 3 stars as I rang up tonight to order takeaway over the phone & was told they don't do takeaway orders over the phone (which is weird because I literally placed a takeaway order over the phone with them not even 2 week's ago and it wasn't an issue whatsoever) I was diverted to the website for 'online ordering' where the Garden City store isn't even listed. I rang them back to inform them and ask why I couldn't just place an order over the phone like I have in the past all to be told they don't do it, apparently? Confused and frustrated. Not cool.. So unless your willing to pay inflated prices through menulog or go instore and wait for your takeaway order unnecessarily I wouldnt bother! Looks like it's sushi train for me tonight! & just FYI Sushi Train actually accept phone orders, WOW! Fancy that!
*UPDATE - 1 star - Ive spent the last half an hour just trying to place a simple order, no one answers the phone (tried about 5 times now & I can't place an order via the app because I can't verify my membership because I am not receiving the verification txt) Had this problem in the past as well. Not happy at all! Pathetic.
I'd also like to highlight my disappointment in the Tofu Poke Bowl being removed from the menu. I stopped eating meat about two years ago and was so excited when that was introduced and equally as disappointed when it was removed not long after. BRING IT BACK Motto Motto! Us vegetarians don't have all that much to choose from already, it would look great on the new...
