Once upon a time post offices, supermarkets, chemists and clothing stores were free standing in suburban areas. Then came the shopping centres that took over the shopping experience by centralising everything even including movie cinemas and food courts to be a one stop shop and a pleasant outing. Westfield Garden City was one such 'shopping' centre that catered to all needs for Australians. It used to be full of variety and easy to park and to use. It used to have the full range of price and quality options of shops like David Jones. Now it does not. Westfield management have shown nothing but incredible and increasing greed, cost cutting measures and slackness allowing the standard of the centre to drop, especially over the last five years. During Covid they showed a disgraceful lack of empathy and continued to charge exorbitant rent to the captive audience of businesses at their mercy suffering under restrictive and oppressive contracts, who could do nothing about the drop in customers. Before that they introduced paid parking with the excuse it was to discourage city commuters. That obvious rip off was never accepted by shoppers and continues to exist and has increased over time. So no not easy to park anymore. Just went there today to find they have been moving familiar and necessary shops around, cutting their size down or outright closing them down to make room for more unnecessary food outlets and or catering to those of one main culture, to the exclusion of Australian or the other cultures that make up Australia. They make more money moving shops around as this is usually at the expense of affected business but is also a huge unwarranted disruption to those businesses and their customers. The worst experience was in City Beach where the air was thick with the sickening smell of mould from the air conditioning ducts. This is a significant health hazard. Several other customers complained they were also affected. I offered my concern to the staff whose health would be in jeopardy breathing that for hours straight. They stated that they have reported it several times as an urgency to management who have done nothing to date or even offered any update as to the intended solution to help them. Westfield Management: Stop wasting valuable money interfering with good reliable businesses and revamping everything that people don't want. Spend money on long overdue maintenance and improve your existing infrastructure. Provide much needed support and respect to your existing businesses that collectively bring in money and keep you afloat. Ensure you maintain the basic core of traditional Australian businesses that everyone needs, expects and are familiar with, a comprehensive range of variety that everyone of all cultures can afford and...
