i gave it an extra star for the beautiful building and fabulous view. Our Instapod gang met up for a late breakfast here at Matthew Thomas, to celebrate the festive season. It was a blustery Saturday morning, but the café was doing a good trade. The café sits in a wonderful, historical building, previously a Masonic hall, full of beautiful features like the ceiling rose painted in several colours. We ate: Eggs Benny with salmon (plus mushies for one of us), a vegetarian breakfast, huge, sexy muffins for two of us, the onesie for one of us, and last but not least – the avolicious. My Eggs Benny with salmon was very filling, my only complaint being the egg was too firm, and not runny how I like it (everyone with poached eggs said the same!). Hubby loved his corn fritter, which was corny rather than frittery (and that’s a good thing). Helpings were generous, the house-made hollandaise was delicious, the bread was crunchy on the outside, and tender inside, also a good thing. Hubby indulged in a strawberry milkshake – also okay. Service was okay, neither here nor there. There is also a cute little shop out the back. The view of the water and the pier is wonderful on a sunny day. We ate, we said Merry Christmas, and we wandered off into the...

Nice coffee shop overlooking Moreton Bay. This place is situated high on the hill on Eagle Terrace, other side of the road has a fairly steep drop from the footpath, with trees all the way down to the foreshore walkway. Parking is ok on the road but gets very hard at peak (Sat / Sun mornings etc). The premises is super clean and tidy, and has a really nice atmosphere. There is seating both inside and out on the footpath. Staff are professional, very polite and service is generally pretty quick. There is a wide variety of food options, and you can customise etc, love the eggs Bene' it has come out perfect every time with eggs cooked - but nice and runny on the inside not cooked through (for those that are fussy about that). If your looking for nice coffee, the staple flat white has always come out decent. aka not boiling / too cold, burnt or bitter. Great spot for a catch up or just sit and watch the bay with a nice cup or drink. Grab the window seats or outside tables for the view which is well worth the effort. This would be a spot to watch the full moon rise over the Bay at certain times of the month. Just a...

A bit disappointed by our experience here. We walked in and were told ‘go up the counter’ in a very dismissive manner. All the tables were reserved yet heaps were vacant and we asked if there was a table. We were shoved right up the back in the corner (even though this table was reserved also). Fair enough, we didn’t book but then we ordered coffee and mine came with a fly. Another one was made (which was good)…. We noticed everyone else had water jugs so we asked the waitress (the main girl who was a bit rude) if we could also have water and she said ‘it’s self service’ and pointed to the water refill station… as we sat there we watched other tables get water jugs given to them and replaced. We got our food which wasn’t bad but small for the price. When my new coffee was delivered the same girl (who was quite rude and dismissive) put my coffee on the table. No apology for the fact the first one had a fly in it. Would I come here again? Probably not. I felt like the service was really...
