My sister & I ate at this restaurant last night and both of us have never been so disappointed by a meal in our lives! We have driven past this place almost every Friday night for the past 6 months and it is always super busy so we figured it must be really good - the great reviews and rating here seemed to back that up. So we were excited to finally have the opportunity to stop for a meal but now I really wish we hadn't.
We arrived relatively early at about 6:15pm and were seated straight away as it was fairly quiet at the time. The food we walked past smelt delicious so we again thought we were onto a winner. We were promptly brought a cold bottle of tap water but were never asked if we wanted any other drinks. The menu is very long but we decided fairly quickly what we wanted and waited for someone to come take our order. And waited. And waited. Staff walked past us several times but paid us no attention so in the end we had to stand up and flag someone down to place our order.
The food came out super fast which we were pleased about as we were hungry, but in hindsight, this should have been a sign for what was to come. For entree we ordered the Satay Chicken skewers and the Coconut Prawns. Whilst the satay sauce was ok, the chicken was dry and had a weird texture. The coconut prawns were just ok also - not necessarily bad, just nowhere near as good as we have had at other Thai restaurants in the area.
For mains we ordered the Mongolian Beef and Chilli Lemongrass with chicken to share, and instead of the complimentary Jasmine rice, we went for the coconut rice. This is where the meal really went downhill. The Mongolian beef was nothing short of awful. The beef was very tough and chewy. The sauce was really thick and had an unpleasant flavour. It also didn't taste fresh, almost like it was from a packet. In fact, I have bought stir-fry sauces from the supermarket that taste 1000 times better - not what you expect from a restaurant. We forced ourselves to eat half of it before moving on to the chilli lemongrass dish, which turned out to be no better. The sauce on this one tasted like it had not been cooked long enough - like the lemongrass was still raw - it was very overpowering and simply horrible. And again the chicken had a weird texture - it was either processed chicken or pre-cooked. Except for the initial mouthful, we left this dish untouched as could not stomach eating any more of it. The best thing we ate all night was the coconut rice, but even that was gluggy and disappointing. Overall we thought the mains were disgusting.
It became clear that the speed at which the food was delivered only highlights the fact the food was not fresh, or at least not cooked fresh. It was like generic mass-produced food you would get at a big buffet, and not a good one. Despite my hunger at the time, I would rather have waited longer for fresh quality food.
Now we might have just been extremely unlucky and happened to order the four worst dishes on the menu, but we certainly won't be going back to try our luck again.
Based on the food we had, we are now left wondering why this place is so popular and how it has managed to receive such good reviews. If we could give it zero stars, we would.
Honestly, do yourself a favour and skip it - there are much better Thai & Vietnamese restaurants literally...
Read moreTerrible. Went to the coorparoo store and ordered my usual on the build a meal menu (thin rice noodles, chinese, tofu and chicken). Got home and found that they had put the ginger sauce on my meal instead, even after repeating the order back to me correctly at the store. I rang and complained and was told to come back and get it fixed. Since I live 25mins from the store and it was already 10pm I did not want to do this, I had intended to go to sleep early as it was a work night and time had already gotten away from me as it was (which was why I didnt want to cook dinner in the first place). I was told to come back next time and recieve a free replacement. Since the ginger sauce is such a strong flavour (and one I dont like at all) I threw it out and didnt even eat dinner - I was so annoyed that I had travelled for almost an hour there and back I just went to bed. Went back several weeks later to get my replacement, and ordered the same meal of course. When I got home this time the meal was wrong again! I repeated the order to the woman no less than FOUR times and she repeated it back to me and yet here I was. Instead of rice noodles I had egg noodles and no chicken (which I had paid extra for the first time I had ordered it!!!!). I am so annoyed and have had several other bad experiences here. The owners are always rude and I will not be going back again. If you want Sing's there is another store is Rosalie which is awesome!!! Just go...
Read moreUpdate: I discovered what the problem was - MSG, far FAR to much MSG. I have eaten MSG hundreds, maybe thousands of times in the last 4 decades but nothing like this. I don't know if it was just this occasion or they always put that much MSG in the food but it was way too much. This is basically a seafood only restaurant. If you are vegan, do not eat here. Two nights ago I had chicken, rubbery. Tonight I got just satay vegetables, and was left with a NASTY burning fishy taste. The veges were nicely done and the indoor seating looks nice, but avoid if you don't want your food cooked in a pan that has cooked seafood. Update: It's now 9 hours later and the nasty burning fishy taste is still there accompanied with a ringing in the head. After brushing my teeth and tongue, gargling with listermint and another mouthwash, butter menthol, cough syrup, food, it's still there and quite disturbing. 5 STAR WARNING!! If you are a decent Muslim or Christian or just want decent food, DO NOT EAT HERE!! I cannot say if this is just one meal that was poisoned or how long this has been happening but I warn all decent people not to eat here!!...
