My family and I had the pleasure of enjoying Father's Day at the Booroodabin Bowls Club, this place is affectionately known as The Boo. This Lawn Bowls club was established back in 1888 & has honor boards that show many champion bowlers from the past. This family friendly place is well known for its Barefoot Bowls & booking in advance is advisable due to the popularity of this social activity. Many thousands of people on a yearly basis enjoy a social outing here at The Boo. The staff at The Boo go the extra mile to ensure everything is provided to enjoy a game of Barefoot Bowls. The menu at The Boo caters for everyone including people who have special needs & there is a children menu included. The friendly bar staff ensure you are well looked after with a great range of wines, spirits & assorted beers, either on tap or by stubbies as required. The Boo is well set up to ensure strict Covid-19 restrictions are in place. Toilets are onsite & limited onsite parking is available for everyone including disabling parking. Brisbane City Council Bus services also run past this place. I believe Bus Stop 11 on Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead is the best drop off point. The Boo also has the capacity to cater for Corporate events, weddings, Bucks & Hens nights & many other social outings. Check out their website for any other matters that The Boo can assist you with. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, drinks & barefoot bowls & will definitely be back...
Read moreThe Boo is a great place! We've been searching for a club that does barefoot bowls for a while (most aren't interested if you're under 60 and don't want to join a comp). We found everything about the Boo easy and welcoming. The previous review about Adam is way off - we spoke to Adam when we booked a lane for Saturday lunch time - he was very accommodating, and happy to prepare a special meal for our daughter. The food was amazing, fantastic flavour and presentation, in generous portions - we've spent twice as much for meals at restaurants and not had the same quality. Good selection of drinks, and the bar staff actually know about their products. Barefoot bowls is perfect for a family outing (best for older/teenage children). Cheap as chips - only $30 for our family (2 kids under 15 FREE) for 2 hours. (Again, showing the previous comment about Adam to be way off). The atmosphere is perfect. Not stuffy and regimented like most bowls clubs. Fun, laid back and friendly. Affordable fun options for the family on the weekend seem to be ever dwindling in Brisbane - this is a real gem and will be a...
Read morePretty casual and laid back vibes at this old lawn bowls club. It was raining on the day of our visit so nothing was happening bowling wise, but we were only here for a feed anyway.
There was only one FOH staff on duty though that seemed adequate for the customer count. We ordered at the counter and food was served to our table in about 20 minutes.
Our order: Brisket sandwich, $26 Chicken snitty, $24 Kids fish and chips, $14 LLB $6 Total $70; 0.99% surcharge if paying by card
Overall the food was decent enough in terms of taste. Value wise I probably expected slightly lower pricing given the setting, and the kids meal wasn't as good a deal as we've had from other clubs and similar venues. We were also surprised it was served in a takeaway/disposable container.
The place hasn't been overly modernised and that includes not having AC inside, though the "inside" area is fairly open/flows through to large the outside. It wasn't overly hot or humid when we visited but this might be a factor in the peak of summer/on...
