After quite an extensive stay in hospital, it was suggested to me that I attend a rehabilitation facility. After doing some research I chose the Banyans. What I did not know is that they put Dva patient in a separate location. It is a lovely house but I found it cold and sterile. It seems they have invested a lot of money in the facility. However I feel they should have invested more in rehabilitation activities, there is a lot of downtime. I want to emphasise that a lot of down time. There is next to no activities that you can do on the premises that you are not allowed to leave either. It’s great that they have a chef, but personally I would rather that money spent On additional staff. Most of the staff/minders were good however there was quite a few very inexperienced staff member. There is very little medical supervision Which was a bit of a concern for me. I do want to point out that there were some amazing people working there and there for all the right reasons, I would like to acknowledge Marilyn particularly I don’t know for sure, but she seems to hold the whole place together. I only stayed two weeks. I was quite uncomfortable But that’s not to say the staff did not try to help me They did there best. I guess what I’m saying is it not for everybody and I do not appreciate the fact that they isolate the veterans from other patients. If you are happy to just chill out read books This place will be fine for you if you are like me and need to keep busy and have activities And people around me this place is definitely not for you. Pros are it is a lovely house and lovely location. Negatives are quite a few very inexperienced staff members and very little medical supervision. Personally I felt like it was a bit of an experiment having 4X defence members living in the same house And I think they need to reconsider that format. I have given the Banyans a 3 Star review. I think it could be improved. And I hope the management consider redesigning the program. Again that’s just my experience other people may love the format. I’ll finish this review by offering a big thank you to Marilyn she is...
Read more"We work with you, ensuring you feel fully informed and in control".... Couldn't be further from the truth. As a brand new patient who visited in late Dec 2021, and had not yet provided Dr Matthew with my medical history, blood tests, specialist referrals etc, I was refused medical treatment within the first 2 minutes of my visit. Despite phoning reception and being told my vaccination status (1 dose vaxxed) would not be an issue, Dr Matthew said, and I quote "I will not be continuing this consult unless you agree to get the second dose of the vaccine". (Does that sound like informed consent to you?) I was hysterical in his clinic, the type of sobbing crying that makes it really hard to speak, but despite my attempts to inform him of my condition, underlying health issues and other factors, he didn't hear or ask to see the numerous blood results, CT scans etc that I had attended the appointment with. He had no prior knowledge of my medical history, allergies, anaphylactic reactions etc. Instead, he used intimidation, power and pressure to make me agree to a medical procedure that I obviously was not comfortable with. The consult was over within 2 minutes as I clearly was not sitting in front of a doctor that "takes the time to listen and explain everything with care and transparency".
It's one thing to practice with such a lack of care and compassion, but it's another thing to falsely advertise and inflate the service you provide. I have never felt more bullied by a health care professional in my life.
Just thought i'd add that as a General Practitioner in Australia, you are bound by the MBA Code of Conduct which states the following: Your decisions about patients’ access to medical care must be free from bias and discrimination. Good medical practice involves: 3.4.1 Treating your patients with respect at all times. 3.4.2 Not prejudicing your patient’s care because you believe that a patient’s behaviour has contributed to their condition.
Not at all the level of medical care I received. Very very disappointed and quite honestly, traumatised from the...
Read moreOur daughters recurring struggle with depression led us to investigate options that would provide her the life tools that would help her identify symptoms, manage through and overcome negative cycles. The folks at Banyans immediately understood the depth of the issues and demonstrated the multi-disciplinary skills that satisfied us to proceed. Great care was taken by them to negotiate the pre-admission requirements and proceed through admission to their facility outside of Brisbane. We joined our daughter on her arrival at The Banyans, a warm comfortable and secure environment that immediately made us feel we had made the right choice. Although it was hard to leave her behind, we knew it was the right thing and that she would be better for it. Each day we spoke with her we sensed her progress as she diligently worked through therapy, diet, exercise, life-skills, knowledge as she gained confidence to recognise and manage her condition. One of the most impressive aspects was their scientific approach using laboratories to conduct genetic and blood analysis that informed her of her unique bio-chemistry, which they coupled with their therapeutics to arrive at satisfying conclusions. This was so important so as to remove the stigma so often associated with mental disorders imposed by society. She completed 5 weeks and returned home stronger, fitter, healthier and well prepared for the road ahead. She has continued her support program and understands this is an important part of the continuing building blocks she is obtaining to get on and ahead building her future. We remain optimistic and confident that our daughter is well and truly on her way. We were very happy with all the staff input and care afforded to her. We would recommend The Banyans team to anyone who is unfortunately affected, but grateful that they were there for us...
