Probably the best way to sum up our experience here is evidenced by the fact that we came here for a feed … twice in the one day. We went for lunch which was fantastic, then the other half insisted that he wanted to come back for dinner! Stunning from start to finish. The young guy who greeted us at lunchtime was efficient but good fun. And was switched on enough that the joke from lunchtime picked up seamlessly in the evening. The venue is great, offering something for everyone. There are romantic booths, booths for a few more people, regular tables and counters where you can look out the windows at Bass Strait which is just over the road. The food was fantastic. I had a smoked salmon and cream cheese roll for lunch, and a steak in the evening. Most steaks come on three sizes which is a great idea. I like a med-rare steak. It was charred on the outside and perfect on the inside. Sauces are rich and thick. Meals come with a free salad buffet which was spectacularly varied. All in all a great experience … and it is highly recommended.

I really liked this place. The salad bar was simple but yummy and all you can eat. My dad had the flathead special, and he said it was alright, perhaps a bit expensive for one flathead fillet at nearly $30. Mum had pork porterhouse with baked potatoes and really enjoyed it. I asked for chicken kiev but they hadn't been made, so I was offered a 'deconstructed kiev'. This was a chicken schnitzel with garlic butter and garlic sauce on the side. It was yum. I opted for roast potatoes, and they were great. The only small complaint I have is that a can of coke is $5. Seems a bit much to me. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back. The atmosphere here was great.

My husband and I both ordered the scotch fillet steaks. Mine was cooked perfectly but had a strong burnt taste from the grill. My husbands steak was completely burnt (beyond reasonably charred) and we had to cut the whole layer off. Not what you’d want when paying for a nice steak. Both steaks were unfortunately tough and took some effort to eat The baked potatoes and fries that came as a side were overfried. My fries had no potato left in them as they were overly deep fried. The servers were quite friendly but felt it felt strange when one of the servers checked on the table behind us 4 times in the space of 30 mins and not us once.

A massive let-down! Especially considering the prices charged. Even the basics, nuggets & chips were so overcooked and inedible. The 'steak' actually comes as a couple of random chunks, half of ours was like leather. The seafood was surely frozen and tasted off. I think it comes with salad bar(?), not that we were informed of it. Clincher was we ordered 1 burger with gluten-free bun, but they had run out of buns, so the 'burger' was served without it, yet we were still charged a gluten-free surcharge! The salad on this 'burger' was also old and soggy. Waitresses at least provided ok service (although we were served wrong drinks, but they were nice about fixing it). Building is also nice. Shame they were let down by everything else. I would have rated 2 stars overall, but the food was honestly just that terrible. Easily the worst we have ever had. Birthday dinner ruined. We do NOT recommend coming here unless you feel like paying a premium...

As part of my business , I am very fortunate to visit Burnie 3 times a year. The "Mallee Grill" is always at the top of my agenda. A meat eaters Paradise,Chef de Grillade Amanda certainly knows how to sear with precision an order of Bluer or Rare Char grilled steaks of the most saught after varieties . The wait and bar staff are also to be commended for their friendly and attentative customer service. It seems , nothing is too much for them. All fare and prices are affordable for all and when you constantly see the dining room full of locals ...You just know it is going to be good! Good job folks, see you again soon, but maybe for me ,Not soon enough, Bon Appetit!! P.S. I can safely say that this "Steak house" even caters for vegetarians and vegans . I have no hesitation in not leaving any of their dishes on offer on my list of...
