We visited Fishheads on our last day in Byron Bay on the 16th June. If you're after seafood in Byron Bay, this would be the place to come. The atmosphere is great, not only being meters from the beach, but the interior decor is comparable to the Drunken Admiral restaurant in Hobart. It showcases its coastal theme with plenty of marine items, including a hanging boat. Customer service was friendly, and as expected, from a european backpacker. But as I say, if they are naturally friendly and well trained, hire them! While some reviews on Googlemaps can have 3 stars or less. Normally, we would only visit venues with 4.0 stars and above, we felt this 3.9 star venue deserved a chance, especially due to its prominent location. To the Chef's and customers ordering; the food was great and flavoursome! The whole fish was huge and very tasty. The mussels in the creamy broth were to die for and quite possibly not the healthiest option, but we couldn't stop scooping the sauce. The seafood linguini and mixed grill platter were also very nice. The Salt & Pepper Squid texture and heat was perfect, except we felt the sweet chilli sauce it was swimming in was not good presentation nor was it nessesary, perhaps a different side sauce with some simple decorative parsley would suffice. Definitely try this place out if you're in Byron Bay and after seafood. Warning for customers: 1. Order to your tastebuds. However, avoid ordering too many deep-fried dishes, as this can ruin your experience at your own fault. 2. Some dishes may be bigger than expected, so avoid over ordering to start 3. Definitely book in advance to save disappointment. When booking ahead, check the weather conditions and book accordingly and to your preference.

This place has fantastic fresh foods. The service is very good, and attentive. I reach at around 4pm with not many customers inside. The Salt & Pepper Squid, on sweet chilli sauce is one of the best I have eaten, if not the best - crispy outside and at the same time the squid almost melt in the mouth with not a taste of squid at all! Portion is just perfect for a starter. I ordered a Black Lip Mussels with creamy white wine sauce as a main, after the starter, I do not really need a heavy main....but to my surprise, it come in a really LARGE bowl! It must have at least a kilo of mussels in there - good mix of orange and white! And with the creamy white wine sauce, just cannot stop eating - it was GREAT! Very fresh and totally satisfied! The setup and environment of this place is very nice, over looking the bay, and the breeze from the sea is just cooling enough for a warm afternoon. By the time I left for my sunset, the tables started filling up. A fantastic restaurant, at the best corner in town, with really nice simple foods, and friendly services - thanks to those in the kitchen and those outside attentively servicing, THANK YOU.

A seafood loving family visiting from interstate and saw that Fishheads came highly recommended so we thought to give it a go. Was unfortunately very disappointed by what we got for $150 (Seafood Platter for 4). Moreton bay bugs - Not fresh and had a strange taste. Also some meat was missing from some. Calamari - Cooked well but very salty. Mussels - mussel meat was not fresh and had a strange taste. However, the chilli sauce was tasty. Fish of the day - So salty that it was inedible. Grilled prawns - The best part of the platter. Cooked and seasoned well. Salmon - The most disappointing part of the platter. They said salmon fillets (as in plural) on the menu but you only get ONE small square of salmon (approx. 7cm x 5cm) to share among 4 people! I returned to the shop when they forgot our cooked prawns and oysters to also let them know that we only got one small square of salmon and the response was that it was deliberate. Oysters - Not fresh, spawning, smallest oysters I’ve ever had. Cooked prawns - Fresh and tasty. Chips - Freshly cooked but very very salty. Overall, was super disappointed with the platter. Would not recommend.

We were excited to dine at Fish Heads last week as we didn't get a chance last time we were in Byron. Unfortunately the weather was stormy so the cafe blinds were necessarily closed so we couldn't make the most of the view (but at least we didn't get wet!). Staff were friendly but very new so a few mistakes. Understandable after all the covid mess. Food was very nice as were the cocktails. We enjoyed the seafood platter which had good variety, although for the price I would have expected it to also include either a salad or fries (or both). Unfortunately a huge error was made by the chef who guaranteed the dish was totally free of the ingredients I am severely allergic to, but we could see big chunks of it right in front of us. We insisted the waitress (who was lovely) take it back to the kitchen and they replaced the dish, but didn't offer any kind of compensation or even an apology from the chef. There are many other great dining options in Byron so unfortunately we won't be dining here again.

My family loves the fish and chips served here and we dine here daily whenever we stay in Byron Bay. Fishheads serves arguably the best fish and chips in NSW, a bold claim from a fish and chips aficionado. Stopped over on our way to the Gold Coast and back and was a little disappointed that my fish was not as fresh as usual. Some parts had a slight fishy taste that is found when you thaw frozen fish. Small complaint, I know, but I left home at 4:30am and drove for 8 hours to make it here in time for lunch! I want to clarify that these last two visits were the only time I experienced this and would unreservedly recommend the fish and chips. Friendly attentive staff with a nice laid back atmosphere right next to the beach makes this a must visit whenever you are in Byron Bay.

My wife and I came here a few days ago and ordered a seafood platter, the fish of the day, two fruit punch drinks, some chips, and salad. While things were slightly expensive, I cannot begin to explain how much I enjoyed the meal. Never have I had seafood that was so carefully seasoned. You can tell they slow-cooked the octopus to perfection as it was incredibly tender. The prawns were juicy (and not overcooked), and the salmon had a smooth taste that melted in my mouth. The sauces were well balanced, and the fish of the day had this crispy layer of skin, covering soft and flavourful fish meat. Complements to the chef, I will definitely be coming back here!
