Very aesthetically pleasing entering the venue. However was downhill from there. Upstairs area was extremely hot, one air conditioner that was ineffective, and minimal fans. The food menu was very confusing, with no separate categories differentiating between meals. Cocktails were average. For a simple dark and stormy drink, it came double shotted (which we were not told of) and cost $36. Food portion sizes were very underwhelming. They were extremely small, not at all catered to the amount of people being served and very very very overpriced. With 7 people at the table, a dish would allow 1 small piece for each person if that. Food took long to come out for such disappointing serving sizes that do not satisfy at all, and for a pricey dish that didn’t deserve its value. Extremely overpriced, even the bread which was very very small and allowed for 1 piece each, and were charged for extra bread after being told it came at no extra cost. Kingfish was average, beef tartare was lukewarm and mushy. Lighting was absolutely horrendous. Could not see anything and had to use a phone flashlight to read the menu and actually see the food that we ordered. Both food and drinks took a long time to come out. Music was very loud. Steak and lamb came out cold and steak was quite tough. Even the lemon in a simple lemonade was preserved and not fresh. Despite the disappointing food, lighting and lack of cooling, the service and staff were very pleasant, nice and good at what they do. When the bill arrived, there was items on our bill that we did not order, bringing our total price up a considerable amount for items that we did not consume. Overall, the food and drinks had so much more potential. Portions were just so so small and were not satisfying in any way. If portions were at least catered to the about of people being served, and were brought out within a reasonable time frame it would be excellent because the thought behind the dishes and recipes were very impressive, but the small portions and moderately warm food takes away from everything else and just ruins it. Personally, would not return again and wouldn’t recommend to others. For 7 people, food and drinks totalled to over $450, with none of us going home satisfied. Was very unfortunate because standards were set very high. Food and drinks were just far too expensive for the quality and...
Read moreAttending for a small birthday family affair, our dinner at The Mez club was kind of tragic.
Our group of five, having made reservations almost a month in advance, were seated outside in 13 degree weather... with no heating... and no protection from the wind... with no option to move as the venue was fully booked.
This alone would be enough to ruin any dinner, but coupled with the music from an enthusiastic live dj that slowly built to deafening levels and what seemed to be portions that could easily have been intended for a group one smaller, it was something more.
What should have been a festive dining experience felt like something closer to being stranded survivors in a frozen tundra. While are frailer members wrapped up in the two blankets the staff provided us after we requested to be moved out of the cold, we looked longingly at the fireplace enjoyed by the patrons inside, and shouted to one another over the howling music. With long waits between courses made longer by the biting cold, we carefully distributed our tapas rations between ourselves. Mostly, we just looked forward to when it was all over.
The Mez was a memorable experience, and we feel fortunate to have survived it.
We did not feel looked after here, and won't be going back without a very good reason. There are much better prepared and more welcoming venues to...
Read moreOverall we really enjoyed our dinner here! The food was delicious and very flavourful - great share plates. They also had a live DJ playing disco music so it was definitely a fun atmosphere with a few cocktails and we loved the vibe.
The only critic I have is that I booked this reservation months in advance and was a bit disappointed to be seated at a high bar table upstairs that just seemed out of place since the rest of the tables were lower. I’m a short gal so my legs don’t agree with high table tops when I can’t touch my feet to to stool :) It would have been fine if we were just having drinks or nibbles but it would have been extremely hard to enjoy a proper dinner at that table. Our waiter wasn’t helpful when we asked to change tables but luckily my boyfriend spoke to the hostess and she was super nice about it and was able to move us despite our waiter saying no. We made sure to thank her at the end of the night and we ended up having a wonderful time! But the restaurant should probably just change that table or only seat people there who are just having drinks because it would have totally killed the whole experience and I wouldn’t have enjoyed the food as much had we not been able to move.
But overall, would definitely recommend for the great vibes and food!! :)...
