I had an unfortunate experience at Coast Roast Espresso Bar after a reef visit. Despite accidentally finding this cafe, the encounter was far from pleasant. After placing an order costing around $65, I went to Bang & Grind for a cappuccino, only to discover Coast Roast had restrictions on bringing in items from other establishments.

Upon returning, the owner confronted me aggressively, refusing to listen and threatening to cancel my order so we can go away. I agreed, saying, "Okay, go ahead, cancel the order." However, he hesitated, lacking the courage to follow through, likely because canceling meant he would have to issue a $65 refund. Eventually, I ended up taking the order as a takeaway.

He persistently accused me of rudeness, seemingly oblivious to his own reflection in the mirror. This behavior was disheartening, and I empathize with the staff who endure such treatment regularly.

As for the food, apart from the banana bread, everything lacked flavor and fell short of expectations. The mango smoothie, in particular, hardly resembled anything close to a genuine mango flavor.

After the incident, the subsequent discovery of similar reviews detailing the owner's rude behavior, even towards children, is concerning. Despite the negative experiences and tasteless food, Coast Roast continues to operate, possibly due to its proximity to the port. Overall, it was a regrettable waste of money, time, and a harsh encounter that marred an otherwise enjoyable day. I wouldn't recommend this...

DO NOT GO!!! The owner is rude. Over priced! Food is not as says on the menu. 1st day ordered smashed avocado on toast - tiny amount of avo smeared across the top of mine & husband’s meals, plus eggs were hard. There are Avocado farms all around Nth Qld & only $2 each at grocers. But only came with a pathetic amount which is meant to be the hero of the dish. Not worth the over priced menu!! He was also rude when placing our order (I should’ve cancelled there & then). Gave Coast Roast benefit of the doubt and bitterly disappointed the second visit. Ordered Eggs Benedict and the menu said with house made muffins or Ciabatta bread. Didn’t receive either, got a stale, dry white burger bun cut in half, no butter. When I provided the feedback to the owner he was rude, condescending and totally unprofessional!! Said ‘it was home made by the baker & I’ll tell him you don’t like his baking”. Totally inappropriate & zero customer service. I offered this feedback for his own benefit but now I have posted my first ever Google review, it was sooo bad!!! Hope you learn from this, you rude individual, not giving a good name to Cairns’ food industry. I recommend visitors go to Villa Romana. So should the owner, to learn some customer service skills!!! He was also very condescending to his staff when she was trying to enter an order whilst he was ridiculing her at the counter. Disgusting man. DO NOT GO TO COAST ROAST on...

The owner berated me for mistakenly allowing my children to finish their McDonalds on the patio while I waited for my order. I didn’t see the signs posted and apologized and immediately packed them up and agreed to take my food to go. He told me that I was rude for bringing that “shit food” in his business and he pays “146,00$ a month in rent” multiple times and how it’s so horrible a mum of 2 would dare feed her kids McDonalds especially on his patio. Myself and my children felt really fearful because of how aggressive he was. I ended up canceling my order and he threw cash at me to refund it while yelling that I was so rude. I understand I made a mistake, but I was apologetic and agreed to leave! My kids are picky and we had a very hectic day, I was tired and wanted to grab a bite in peace without them fussing over not liking what I ordered them. I just couldn’t believe how he treated me!!! We ended up at Muddy’s playground where I got an amazing smoothie and my kids were allowed to play and have fun without being in fear. Very sad we had this awful experience as I’ve bought coffee here a few times before. Sounds like the owner is feeling upset about his rent price and competition of McDonalds and took it out on me and my kids. He...

Perfect spot on the esplanade, just a shame food was very disappointing. Ordered the Açai bowl last Friday morning and what we received left us absolutely flabbergasted. As per the photo, we received this bowl consisting of fresh fruit, muesli, chia seeds and two frozen ice cube sized blocks of acai. This is not how a açai bowl should be served. The table next to us ordered the same bowl and it arrived after ours. The woman was quite annoyed at what was presented in front of her and promptly took the bowl up to the counter to get a refund. The refund was given reluctantly. When the staff member approached our table we expressed our dismay and disappointment with the açai bowl and told her that it was very rich to expect a customer to pay $22 for a few pieces of fruit and two small blocks of frozen açai. She agreed and said she’d go back to the owner and pass on our comments. Crickets!!! No one came back to the table or offer us a refund. Consider going to this place carefully. Such a shame as it’s in such a great spot.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! The worst place I have visited, tasteless food (I have ordered the Aussie burger), chips also tasteless. Really the worst burger I have ever eaten in my life, after I placed my order my wife came in with an Acai from across the street (she was carrying our baby) and the owner told her to leave because they have a do not bring food from other places policy (what a shame even when you order something from them) she was patient and just finish her Acai at the entrance, this must apply for someone that just sit there without ordering any food. Then my wife ordered a sandwich and another problem, a piece of the prosciutto plastic package was in her sandwich. Really avoid this place, I went there because it was the closest after coming from the pier.
