Me and my family went here for dinner in our first night in cairns after staying for a week in Port Douglas and were blown away by the food, staff and atmosphere.
My family is from Tasmania and because of that we prefer not to eat salmon as it supports the industry we are against and the immediate response from them was so professional they offered just to do king fish or another of our liking for the said plate, we went with just the king and was blown away by this first meal. Altogether initially we ordered a waygu beef, fried rice, the king fish and a dish I honestly can not remember the name of. These were all amazing genuinely some of the best Japanese food we've ever had and the best Waygu beef we've experienced yet.
The staff we're also so accompanying with us as we were quit slow with ordering and probably were being a bit of a pain but yet they showed kindness and helpfulness all through our experience.
If I was to take away anything from this experience it would be to be prepared to eat more then you were expecting to and yet not feel like you've swalled a brick afterwards like you do eating at a pub or so. Like I said we ordered our dishes ive already stated first thinking that would fill us up but little did we know we would devoure it in about 10 minutes we then order a dessert of sesame and matcha ice cream and two miso soups and even after that we got a mushroom dish and dumpling dish to finnish us off.
The KOI Bar & Restaurant is an amazing experience and if you get the chance I highly recommend giving it a chance or even two, it is delicious food, amazing service and extremely affordable, we paid 160-180$ for all that food that suited the three of us, imagine if that was in a major city like Sydney, you would be paying up to 300$ for a most likely meal that didn't reach this standard.
Thank you for having us tonight and we wish we were wealthy enough to make the 6 hour flight from Hobart every weekend just...
Read moreSolo, birthday treat . Spotted after going to an art exhibition at Mulgrave Gallery the night before and i thought this looks good for my birthday it was a Monday and they were open
I chose 5 plate chefs choice for ,$80 plus miso soup. Asked for no Pork Prawn or carbs. Asked if i can do Spicy. I said yep as spicy as you want. Miso great. Salmon Carpaccio great flavours but not melt in yor mouth salmon , scallops big and juicy in a miso broth nice flavours well presented . Down hill from there bought me out dumplings (carbs) , sent back , then came prawns sent back. Then came dissapointment Wagu beef. Well 5 slices of thin rump steak. No marbling tough and worst crime tasteless. Maybe some wasabi no zing just soy. Crunchy vegetable maybe was pickled was good . Last was salmon. Ok, bit dry on top but again notbing zingy and was swimming in oil. No desert , They did take off the price of the wagu because i told them it was a big dissapointment and as far as i was concerned that was not wagu.. But over all i think i would have done better else where . Staff were lovely. I decided not to drink as had had huge remedial massage treatment so was just drinking water but wine list looked well picked and had some interesting cocktails. Great position...
Read moreWe came to eat at Koi on Saturday night for my birthday dinner, having read the 5 star reviews online we were very excited for our visit. The waitress that seated us was super lovely & explained how the menu worked to her suggestion we ordered a mixture of dishes. First we had the Tuna Tataki which was really tasty we thought this is going to be really good. Unfortunately it went down hill from there the kingfish sashimi was covered in a really thick red sauce which tasted like watered down red curry paste & it had a very fishy taste to eat which left quite a nasty taste in your mouth we questioned the freshness of the fish. Duck pancakes were nice but with minimal duck on it. The enoki mushroom was majority just batter we hardly got any taste of mushroom. The sides of Asian slaw and fried rice had no flavour or seasoning to it whatsoever. We did thoroughly enjoy the wagyu beef it was cooked really well. Overall our experience was very disappointing and for whoever knows there asian food we would expect would feel the same. When we came to pay the bill we were not asked how everything was so at the time we didn’t leave our feedback we just left the restaurant. On our next visit to Cairns we will definitely be choosing a different...
