In short, some poor execution of "fusion" plus relatively expensive items that seems like small portion sizes but could be fixed easily.
Oysters: They were fresh, presentation was pretty good, the vinaigrette dressing was pretty run of the mill. Nothing much to say here. 5/10
Panko crumbed burrata (fried cheese): This one was the first dish that was unimpressive. I've never had Burrata before but it doesn't really seem like a cheese that melts very well. The cheese had split due to heat and was a bit chunky, it was also quite mild flavoured. This is also the dish that first featured the 3 paper thin bits of biscotti that was supposed to be the vehicle for the cheese. I get trying to be fancy here but surely a thicker piece of bread would work way better. Also considering the fact that the panko coating was crispy anyway so why double down on that texture? 3/10
Beef tartare: credit to the tartare itself. Great flavour, the incorporation of the wasabi worked well and it was seasoned nicely. Points off again for the paper thin biscotti. The 4 pieces were not enough to go with a relatively generous portion of the tartare maybe try 8 pieces here? It's probably only an increase of 10g of biscotti anyway if you wanted to keep them the same size. 7/10
Lap Cheong Fettucini: it's a carbonara. Using Lap Cheong instead of guanciale made it a little sweeter. Portion was on the smaller side. 5/10
Matcha Tiramisu: Wow! Do not call your tiramisu a matcha Tiramisu if all you're going to do is sprinkle matcha powder on the top and call it a day. In addition, the coffee in the tiramisu was extremely sour and bitter at the same time. I normally don't like things that are excessively sweet but this dessert was not sweet in the slightest. 0/10

Read moreI'm going to be honest here, I wanted to give this a try as I like giving all the new restaurants in Claremont a go. I knew it would be a bit pricier, that's fine.
However, there was something missing with everything. There didn't appear to just be a regular steamed rice option on the menu, making it hard for any of the dishes to feel substantial. Genuinely, I'm not sure the dumplings at $4.5 were that much better than ones a third of the price in Northbridge. The bang bang chicken was really really good, full credit to the chef, but it didn't really come with anything else (back to the rice problem). We both left hungry and went to farmer jacks for protein meals to actually fill up, as we didn't want to spend another $65 on some fried rice and a few dumplings.
Booze is limited again, and the house wines at $16 were nothing to rave about to be totally honest.
The actual restaurant dining is odd, with brick against your back, or apparently budget decor for the most part. Some interesting paintings.
I also think the service was pretty average. Sure, they seated us and took our orders, asked how it was... But for those prices I expect generally to be sold on the dishes and explained a bit about them. I did like everything was nut free though.
I hate to do this to a new establishment, but I really don't think it's value for money for a couple unless you willing to spend over $100 each for a pretty mid-tier experience.
I wish them luck as others clearly love the place, but it's not for everyone. I won't be...
Read moreI recently dined at this venue and I must say my dinner experience at this resturant was nothing short of exceptional. This resturant strikes the perfect balance between chic and cozy and delivers high quality service, food and atmosphere. Lygon Lane offers the flexibility of an intimate dinner, lively gathering or even a just casual fine wine.
The service here is excellent and attentive. The staff were courteous and incredibly knowledgeable with the extensive wine list, food and drinks menu.
The food menu is short, simple and not overwhelming. It offers a variety of options with creative twists on dishes that were absolutely delicious, particularly highlighting the mushroom XO & lap cheong fettucine carbonara and the striploin with gochujang butter. The serving sizes were very reasonable, matched with a fair and justifable price tag for all of the dishes that we ordered.
I appreciate the team at Lygon Lane for putting together such a good experience.
This venue gives me every reason to return and I look forward to visiting this place again in the...
