Worst experience ever, charged extra for Raitha (no restaurant charges in Hobart, may be the whole earth), did not gave me any information about it. The biryani was too spicy and I was allocated a corner seat and pressured to order for every 2 minutes. The major difference i felt and struggled is the treatment and disparity between me and a white man. I was pushed to order and questioned, kind of obligated and remorse but he was treated differently, he was treated with respect. I hope they show the same respect and curtesy towards every skin color. My Taiwanese friend couldn't handle the spice quotient and we have clearly specified it. He even told me about the quality of Indian food is subpar. The biryani i ate had 3 small pieces of lamb with polio or malnourished and that too a bone without meat. It was too spicy and very less in quantity and don't ask me about the quality of it. I hated the kitchen hand as he was asking me about the food quality with that washing attire and greasy kitchen lenins. Hated every second of the time I had to endure without loosing my patience, worst food on the whole earth and the quality, quantity, taste, behaviour, serving, facilities, attention, attitude, courtesy, professionalism, experience, work ethics, management, safety, maintenance etc are absolutely outclassed. Apart from the emotional trauma of the experience i have suffered diarrhea for 3 days because of the unhygienic kitchen practices inside. It was physically and mentally exhausting experience, the restaurant is surviving just because of lack of options in devonport. Please close the restaurant if you can't show equal value for every skin color and don't serve sewerage food, don't pressure the customers to order, don't influence your valuable patrons to buy something costly. Don't publicize your business with in our valuable time, don't ruin our restaurant experience with that fake smile and clear business tactics. We are content in our life and can afford your restaurant for 10 lifetimes but stop day dreaming about your business and concentrate on customer satisfaction. Make service as priority, get trained in treating people, most importantly leave that despicable mindset in your home and try to work rather than business.

If this is not the best, it's definitely one of the best Indian restaurants that I've ever visited in Australia. The interior was so attractive and the girl at the front desk was so nice. She told us that it might take 20 more mins for her to arrange a table, but she was able to get it and sit us down in 10 mins. Then she recommended the Samosa for us, saying that it's not frozen and house-made and we ended up having 2. It was so fresh, just as promised, and was so tasty with the house tamarind sauce. We had a lamb biriyani and we asked it to be spicy and hot. We just followed the normal spicy scale here in Aus and gosh!! It was smoking hot. So if you don't want it too hot,, order your meals medium. We were literally crying our eyes out, but we finished the whole biriyani.. :D We tried fig kulfi for the dessert and what a treat it was. I have never seen that at anywhere else. Highly recommended. We also tried the carrot halwa and it was nice too. Many many thanks to the chef!! And I will definitely visit the place if I visit Tasmania again by any chance!!

OPERATION GASTRONOMIC EXCELLENCE AFTER-ACTION REPORT: SK’s INDIAN RESTAURANT, DEVONPORT, TASMANIA

Date of Visit(s): 12 May 2025 Location: Central Devonport, Tasmania

MISSION OBJECTIVE: To conduct a thorough reconnaissance and assessment of SK’s Indian Restaurant, a frontline culinary unit operated by a veteran Indian chef—formerly of the Taj, Oberoi, and other five-star commands—now on deployment in Tasmania, honouring India with flavour, warmth, and pride.

INTELLIGENCE FINDINGS: Strategically located in the heart of Devonport's central market district, SK’s Indian Restaurant is not only highly accessible, but also a cultural and logistical HQ for Indian travellers and global food explorers alike. Operated solely by the chef-owner and his ever-graceful partner, the restaurant functions with the precision of a commando unit and the hospitality of a home away from home.

LOGISTICS AND RATIONS (FOOD):

Chole – Richly spiced and cooked to perfection—pure infantry of flavour. Palak Paneer – A smooth, disciplined assault of spinach and cottage cheese on the taste buds. Assorted Naans (Plain, Garlic, No-Garlic) – Crafted in the tandoor like armour forged in fire. Paneer Bhurji – A tactical burst of freshness and protein. Mint Chutney & Tamarind Chutney – A deadly double strike of zest and tang. Tandoori Roti & Butter Naan – Supplies that complete every battle plate. Legendary Indian Chai (36 Spices) – A war cry in a cup. Stimulating, bold, and unforgettable.

MORALE AND CAMARADERIE: At SK’s, guests are treated not as customers but as brothers and sisters-in-arms. The owners extend personal affection, cultural warmth, and unmatched attention to detail. You do not dine here—you belong here.

SPECIAL OPERATIONS (UNIQUE SERVICES): What truly distinguishes SK’s is its role as a Strategic Briefing Centre. While serving elite cuisine, the owners also offer deep intel on:

Tasmania’s hidden gems Driving rules and travel tips Accommodation recommendations Local dos and don’ts Scenic routes and safety protocols

Their grasp of Tasmania and Australia is outstanding, making this restaurant a one-stop command post for any traveller preparing to explore the island. Whether it’s about where to eat, how to drive, where to stay, or what to avoid—this establishment is the unofficial cultural consulate for all Indian and international visitors.

STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT: Having conducted missions in 67 countries, I can affirm that SK’s Indian Restaurant stands as a proud bastion of Indian excellence overseas. It offers not just a meal—but a mission debrief, a cultural exchange, and a heartwarming reunion with Mother India.

RECOMMENDATION: Award SK’s Indian Restaurant the Order of Culinary Brilliance and recognize it as a frontline outpost of Indian diplomacy, hospitality, and heritage in...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at SKS Indian Restaurant in Devonport, and I must say that it was an absolutely delightful experience. The food quality was top-notch and the flavors were simply outstanding. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the friendly staff who provided exceptional service throughout my visit.

One of the highlights of my culinary journey at SKS Indian Restaurant was undoubtedly the curries. I had the opportunity to try three different curries, and each one was a masterpiece in its own right. The flavors were well-balanced, and the spices used were just right, providing a combination that was both tantalizing and aromatic. It was evident that the chefs at SKS Indian Restaurant take great pride in their craft, as the curries were cooked to perfection.

Accompanying the curries was the perfectly cooked naan bread. Soft, fluffy, and slightly charred, the naan bread perfectly complemented the curries, adding an extra layer of texture and taste. It was evident that great care had been taken in its preparation, resulting in a naan that was a pleasure to indulge in.

The overall dining experience at SKS Indian Restaurant was nothing short of fantastic. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, making it an ideal place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. The waitstaff were attentive and knowledgeable, offering recommendations and ensuring that all our needs were met.

Additionally, the portions were generous, providing great value for the price. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and content, with the knowledge that I had enjoyed a high-quality meal that was worth every penny.

In conclusion, SKS Indian Restaurant at the Devonport location is truly a gem in the culinary scene. The food is of exceptional quality, bursting with flavor and carefully prepared with great attention to detail. Whether you're a fan of aromatic curries or delectable naan bread, this restaurant is sure to exceed your expectations. I highly recommend SKS Indian Restaurant to anyone seeking a memorable...
