We dined this weekend, just the 2 of us, my wife and I, she was celebrating 36 years in the hospitality industry in Devonport, with an award from her employer and an EFTPOS gift card to spend.
We arrived early and the restaurant was already busy, we asked for an indoor table and was escorted to a table for 2, directly opposite the Bar and close to the pass.
Well, how lucky were we, this was a fantastic position, as we could watch all the activity and buzz of the restaurant. We were so happy. Quite often we will request a table near, or at the pass when we dine in other restaurants around Tasmania. The atmosphere of the restaurant was just fantastic, all very happy and attentive, a pleasure to watch the team.
Within 3 or so minutes we were asked if we would like to order drinks, so this was a great start. Our bottle of wine (Brown Brothers) was delivered within a few more minutes. In this space of time at least 2 more wait staff asked us if we were being looked after.
We placed our order without fuss, with very knowledgeable staff. All questions were answered without any pauses or having to go and ask anyone. We shared an entrée of the BBQ Beef Short Rib. This was quite delicious, melt in your mouth and very morish. Our only problem was it wasn’t quite big enough to serve for 2. Yes, we should have ordered 1 each.
For mains we both ordered the 300g Grass Fed Eye Fillet, medium rare, pepper sauce and house gravy, with a side of the roasted vegetables. Our mains were delivered 10 or so minutes after our entrée was cleared, with more drinks ordered. Both our eye fillets were cooked to how we like them, cut from the middle of the fillet, with both very thick cuts. Both were very tender and had heaps of flavour. Our sauces were also prepared well, with plenty of robust taste to accompany the meat. Chips and salad were good, but overwhelmed by the hero of the plate, the steak. Roasted vegetables were also a great addition to the table and were seasoned with what we suspect was an eastern spice.
For dessert we shared a Crème Brulé, that was obviously freshly made, with a beautifully hard shard of sugar, that we cracked with eagerness. Again, we were not disappointed.
Overall, a fantastic night. The floor staff were really outstanding, buzzing from one area to another, very professional and all obviously experienced. Our hostess was also very attentive and leading a very calm and happy team on the night. 10/10 for the FOH staff.
Chefs at the pass were also very professional, with some great looking meals coming out during the night. They truly are the engine of the business. We spotted Andy in the kitchen, from Cradle Mountain and other great restaurants around Tasmania. A pleasant surprise.
Thank you for a fantastic experience, we hope to come back soon…
9/05/23: Dined here again this week for dinner & we were not disappointed. Was a very quiet night, however we did dine 2 months ago, and the restaurant was at full capacity and the service and food was still outstanding.
We were greeted and sat by our friendly server and ordered drinks. We had our grand daughter with us, so we ordered her Chicken and chips while we waited for another guest.
We ordered an entrée each, 2 x Salmon Plate and the Spare Rib, both very delightful and presented well. A great start as we ordered a bottle of Brown Brothers Sparkling wine.
Main was 2 of the eye fillets with sauces, vegetables & Potatoes’. Andrew ordered the prawns. Another bottle of Brown Brothers Sparkling Wine was ordered and served by our Host, Prem, with a little slice of Theater 😊
A shared Brulé was in order for dessert to cap off another great night.
Another 5 stars for excellent service and...
Read more6th January 2025 - Prems Seafood Bar and Grill was the perfect choice for our anniversary dinner. Tucked away in a charming, secluded setting, the restaurant had a warm and intimate atmosphere that made the evening feel extra special.
We ordered the seafood platter for two, and it was nothing short of amazing. Every item was fresh, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. From succulent prawns and tender calamari to perfectly grilled fish, each bite showcased the quality of the seafood. The flavors were well-balanced, and the portion size was generous—ideal for sharing.
The service was just as impressive. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and made sure our experience was memorable. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for exceptional seafood in a cozy setting, Prems is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!
10th September 2025 - The Elegance Lounge Seafood Bar & Grill – A Fresh New Favourite! (Formerly Prems Seafood Bar & Grill)
We recently visited The Elegance Lounge Seafood Bar & Grill, and I have to say - what a fantastic transformation this place has undergone! If you’ve been before when it was known as Prems, you’re in for a real surprise. The new ownership has truly breathed fresh life into the entire experience, from the atmosphere to the food.
Right from the moment we stepped in, we were met with such warm and welcoming vibes. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the space itself feels inviting and relaxed - perfect for a casual meal with friends or a cozy dinner date.
We started our meal with the Salt and Pepper Squid, which was light, crispy, and full of flavour. The seasoning was spot on, and it was served with a dipping sauce that added just the right kick. A great way to begin!
For mains, we shared the Sea Dragon Sizzle and the Seafarers Linguine - and honestly, both were exceptional. The Sea Dragon Sizzle arrived at the table sizzling (literally!) and was packed with bold, aromatic flavours that really hit the spot. It’s one of those dishes you just can’t stop eating. The Seafarers Linguine, on the other hand, was creamy, comforting, and full of beautifully cooked seafood - generous portions too, which is always a plus!
You can really feel the difference since the business changed hands - everything just seems more refined, more thoughtful, and definitely more delicious. It's clear the new team is passionate about what they’re doing, and it shows in every detail.
We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. If you haven’t been since the changeover, now is the time to give it another go. The Elegance Lounge is definitely living up to its name - classy, cozy, and full of flavour. Highly...
Read moreThis was our first night in Devonport so we hoping that our dinner at Prem’s would match some of the great local produce/meals we had elsewhere in Australia.
Located on the corner of Oldaker and Rooke Street, the restaurant appears to be a collection of different premises. Of concern when we arrived was the ‘restaurant for sale’ sign at the front door. Undeterred we entered, we opted for the outdoor dining area as it was a balmy January night, rather than one of the different disparate indoor areas. The ground itself was sloping down the hill, which meant most of the tables or chairs weren’t that stable.
We went with the butterflied Quail (marinated deboned quail on a bed of a bed of spinach grape juice dressing with a fried quail egg) $22, and Salmon four ways (fresh Tasmanian salmon - cold smoked, hot smoked, tartare and house gravlax) $24., for starters. The quail was slightly overcooked but still contained bones. The salmon was fresh, with the tartare the standout but lacked any accompanying dressing or sauces.
For mains we picked the BBQ Beef short rib, with ‘mouth watering house BBQ sauce’ and pineapple slaw and wasabi peas - $20, and Seafood linguine- $39. The rib was just one rib, with a separate bone and two small dobs of wasabi. The sauce was probably a bit too sweet. The linguine was nice, the scallops were fresh and perfectly cooked the salmon however was slightly overcooked and a little tough.
Like other reviews it was a bit disappointing having room temperature water, would have been just as easy having chilled water. The beer at $10 for a glass was a bit expensive for the amount provided.
We didn’t really feel like desert. In summary it felt like they were just going through the motions and had lost their passion for...
