Quick Update. Back in Canberra and I still love Catbird. But the big news is that I thought I was going to be missing Thanksgiving at home in the US only to discover that Catbird is doing a 4-day Thanksgiving event that started this evening. What an amazing all you can eat buffet. My friends and I thought we were going for the turkey, which we were missing at home, but really enjoyed the ham as well as the wonderful selection of other sides. However, the star of the evening might have been the selection of six house-made pies on offer. Of course we had to try them all and couldn't pick the best. So if you're interested in an American style Thanksgiving dinner go to Catbird sometime before this ends on Sunday night. You won't regret it.
In Canberra on business and just found this new cafe near the convention center at 44 Constitution Ave. As a frequent visit to Canberra I've eaten in a lot of cafes; this one is different. My colleagues and I have now been there twice so I've had an opportunity to sample, or at least see, almost half of the menu, which is an interesting combination of Australian favorites and great southern California imports. Things to definitely try include the three breakfast burritos, the Mexicali salad, the nachos to share, and almost any of the huge sandwiches. And don't skip the pastries. There's a nice display at the front counter and we found the blueberry muffin, the coconut cookie, and the cinnamon rolls were exceptional - and they're all big enough to share.
There are many places to get good coffee in Canberra, and we thought Catbird is up there with the best.
Finally the attractive space and attentive staff make this a friendly place to come. Be sure to venture up the stairs to the mezzanine - we missed this on our first visit. It's a great place for a small group - 6 or 8 - to meet and talk. There are also some comfortable lounge chairs if you simply want to sit and enjoy your...
Read moreI popped in to grab a bite between classes and found the staff very accommodating. The place was maintained well, but it wasn't immediately clear what was available to order and I had to find a menu. To edit a smoothie to cows milk was not an option in the pos so caused some confusion. Service was reasonably fast; but I ordered a mojo city Cuban, and appear to be given a Silverado ranch (I ordered to takeaway and did not realise till I reached my destination). The sandwich I did receive however was nice, though I found there too be two much bread, which made it hard to eat and the chicken though tasty was in small strips so kept falling out. I really hope my visit was just a comedy of errors, i will probably go back...
Read moreOne of the best cafes I’ve been to this year and I’ve been to a lot! Super diverse menu, so many healthy options. Ordered a batch brew, recovery tea and the mission beach caesar. Everything was a high quality, generous serving and it was all presented very nicely. Really good seating options ahhhh I loved it I will be back tomorrow but sadly heading back to Melbourne later this week. If I’m ever back in Canberra I will have to come back! Also music choice was on point, and I am a music artist so I’m very harsh with my music taste… if you guys want some nice cafe music my Spotify is “Gordon’s...
