Maybe it was a particularly bad day for the team at Močan & Green Grout, who knows, but if it was an indication of their everyday, I'm surprised they have such a high review rating. Our ordering experiences was, as my brunch companion noted, "one of the most awkward interactions of my life". Our waitress listened to our requests before saying that she was having trouble remembering everything on such a busy day so excused herself to collect a pad and pen, delaying our service further. If she were new to the role, why not already have those tools on her person? Why feign memory skills if that's not your strong suit? Our coffee took a long time to appear, was slightly burnt and too closely followed by our meals (if you're like me, you prefer to drink your caffeinated beverage before consuming your food). The saving grace was the food itself although for $17 my baked eggs with charred eggplant was rather small. We were all feeling pretty deflated after our lack-lustre experience and were ready to GTFO however, even leaving the place was an ordeal. Lining up to pay was painful and when we finally got to the head of the queue we were hit with an $80 something bill that seemed excessive. We asked for a review of the cost and discovered extra items on our receipt that had not been cleared from the order taken before ours. I can only assume it was a bad day for the crew at this café but I also wonder if those who left positive reviews were seduced by the quirky decor and lively interiors but, when it comes to service, substance always...
Read moreVentured to Močan & Green Grout after a gym session in New Acton. While the cafe was bustling, we were fortunate enough to find a table for two. The interiors exude a charming grunge ambiance, enhanced by the abundance of plants. However, the aesthetic, as pleasing as it was, tended to mask the evident dust, dirt, and cobwebs scattered about.
We were promptly attended to, and our order, consisting of a range from the salmon gravlax roll to the pannacotta, was taken without delay. Regrettably, my salmon roll was a letdown. Comprising mostly of lettuce, it disintegrated upon arrival. When I voiced my concern, the response was, "I won't touch it, but you can put it back together yourself." Disappointed, I opted to just enjoy the salmon on its own.
On a brighter note, the pannacotta was a culinary masterpiece. It was beautifully presented and delivered an exquisite fusion of flavors. The bacon and egg roll was another highlight, though there was an initial hiccup with my friend's carrot cake being momentarily forgotten. When it did arrive, the cake, though gluten-free, had a slightly overpowering citrus hint in its cheese frosting which wasn't to our preference.
Our beverages, the almond flat white and cloudy apple juice, were decent and met expectations.
Kudos to the lady who took our order and processed our payment. She displayed commendable professionalism and was truly the silver lining of our experience. While the ambiance and a few dishes impressed, I'm uncertain about a return visit given the...

The food at Močan & Green Grout is nothing short of exceptional. The star of the menu was the Baked Eggs with Chickpeas, Tomato, and Chèvre. This dish was a harmonious blend of rich flavors and textures, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Each bite was a comforting reminder of home-cooked goodness, with the chèvre adding a delightful creaminess that elevated the entire experience.
Our kids couldn’t get enough of the freshly baked banana bread, which was moist and flavorful, paired perfectly with the rich, velvety hot chocolate that kept them warm and happy. It was a joy to see them enjoy their breakfast so much.
My wife was equally impressed with her choice of the bacon and egg roll. The roll was generously filled, with crispy bacon and perfectly cooked eggs nestled in a soft, fresh bun. It was a simple yet satisfying dish that hit all the right notes.
