After hearing many good reviews about this place we were severely disappointed with the experience we had last night. We got this delivered, but used a $1 voucher so the price we paid is excluding delivery fee.
My partner ordered a Seafood Laksa a drink and a sago pudding for desert, I myself ordered 12 chicken skewers, and one of the Roti Canai with a few dipping sauces. We spent $90 in total. Now from some experiences I have had with restaurants in the CBD is that you expect to pay a little extra, and in return receive a higher quality of food, the food was fine, however the portions were atrocious
The 12 chicken skewers cost $30. They were terrific, but their size was laughable. Each skewer probably had less than a Mcdonald's Chicken Nugget worth of meat on them, it was as though the chefs are trying to save costs and/or didn't buy enough food to get through the weekend. You are serving some dry chicken that probably costs $9 a kilo, it's not some Japanese Wagyu. If I can buy nearly 3 kilos worth of chicken for $30, but you can barely provide 350g for $30, I think there's something a little off balance there..
Roti Canai, I can't particularly fault. It was $10 for 1 piece of Roti & 3 dipping sauces, the sauces were basically one tablespoon though lol
My partner's Laksa was very, very noodle heavy and less actual seafood, which is more expensive, so you'd be inclined to expect a decent portion of it.
Anyway, quality is fine, but quantity is a joke. No one expects to pay $90 for 2 people and be still hungry at the end. You guys are a casual Asian fast food place, not fine dining, unless I'm mistaken. If I spent $90 at an Indian Restaurant, Chinese Restaurant, Burger place or even a moderately priced Japanese Restuarant - I'm usually either paying for 3 people, or I'm binge eating and put into a food coma, but $90 and 2 people still hungry is what I would expect from paying 90 Ringit not 90 AUD.
This seems to be a trend with the restaurant lately, I won't be ordering here again unless the reviews flood with 5 stars and say that a change of management has taken place and that stingy af head chef...
Read moreMy family and I have been visiting your city (Canberra) location for quite a number of years and honestly the food, service and atmosphere was above and beyond. We had a server named John who was always welcoming and warm and made sure we were catered to accordingly as my husband has allergies to most nuts (peanuts included) and most of the dishes he eats have peanuts which are always carefully excluded when the dishes are served. Now, our experience has been subpar (John no longer works at this location), I understand that your servers have multiple customers to attend to and are doing their 'best'. However, the few times my family and I have visited we've been forgotten in terms of constantly reminding servers to bring soy sauce or a small bowl or reminding to NOT serve peanuts with dishes my husband eats. Last night, my husband chose a dish and I made it clearly known he has an allergy to peanuts. The serve kept saying 'okay, okay, okay' but didn't seem to genuinely care enough to make sure no peanuts were served or cross contamination happened because when my husband got his food it had traces of peanuts (the shells and a half peanut mixed in with the sauce). I immediately complained and all the servers did was half heartedly apologise and ask what dish my husband wanted and I said the same dish, just no peanuts and make sure there's no cross contamination. Its beyond a joke that it even happened and it could have been a potential life or death situation. Thankfully, my husband did not half a reaction but I am disappointed in the service and that the servers reaction was a half hearted apology.
We love coming to Papparich but it's becoming a disappointment every time we visit because the service and food is just not the...
Read moreI ordered a dish which the menu says is very spicy and is pictured with a lot of chilli - I have ordered this many times before.
It was the last dish on our table brought out, which didn't inherently bother me because they bring it out as it's made. That's how restaurants work. No worries.
When I get the dish, I take a bite and it's not spicy whatsoever and there is no visible chilli. When I ask what it is, they tell me it's the dish I ordered. I show them on the menu that it's clearly not the dish due to the complete lack of spice both taste and visually.
What annoyed me about this is that the table was racially diverse, which suggests they waited to see who had ordered it, and then modified it based on an assumption rather than asking.
Added to this no tap water brought over to the table, and when I went to get it, the staff treat me like I'd committed war crimes. the menus are inconsistent regarding which dishes are available/unavailable. When I asked a waitress, she talked to me like I'm an idiot to ask with no recognition that the menus are different....this is despite the fact I led with, gesturing to a person at my table, "his menu shows this dish as available but on mine it is not, which menu is correct?", she asks me "what does 'his menu' mean?" in a condescending voice, to which all I could reply with was "um....the menu he is holding". the food is average and portions are small compared to restaurants like Mamak, yet...
