Went for dinner at this new Indian joint. The restaurant as the feel and decor of being in a cafe or restaurant in Colaba. They have three different areas to sit and dine. The menu was very unique and interesting. The whole vibe was very nostalgic for me. To start we ordered chilli chicken , Afghani chicken and kholapuri fish . The kholapuri fish was delicious with good amount of spicy batter. Chilli chicken was like a milder version of the usual chilli chicken that you get but was good. Afghani chicken was okay needed bit more seasoning and maybe more of the tandoor feel to it. For mains we ordered goat chop curry, mangalorean chicken curry, chicken biryani and laccha paratha. Both the curry was delicious and I was so happy to have mangalorean curry for the first time in perth which tasted like a mangalorean curry. The biryani was tasty not the usual dum biryani but good. Laccha paratha and rose lassi was yumm. Dessert we tried the crème caramel and it was perfect like the one you would find in a cafe in south of Mumbai. Thank you the experience Colaba social.

We were so excited to try some authentic Indian food tonight at this new restaurant - however both service and food disappointed. For entree we had the Punjabi samosa and chicken tikka (tandoori) which was nice, but not the best. We also ordered the Gol Guppa Shots (starter), however we had to follow up on this order 3 times and it finally came after we had all finished our mains. For mains we had the smashed eggplant, Manglorian chicken curry, saag paneer and lamb rojan josh - all of which lacked flavour and tasted watered down. However the naan bread was good - we tried the garlic, cheese and plain. Service on the floor was really inattentive (we had to flag a waiter each time) and our table was largely unattended (plates uncleared etc). Our mains were just dropped on our table without letting us know what they were and when we asked they were incorrectly introduced which created some confusion (we suspect we may have even received the wrong dish). Overall not the best Indian food or dining experience, we left quite unsatisfied and grabbed dessert elsewhere.

Great show for a 12week old establishment. The owner Shelly (spell?) was warm and welcoming, personable and seemed to know her game. The interiors were curated to deliver grandiose in a simple pub set-up. Nostalgia punctuated where the eye lingers : the Menu (a classic 'Colaba cafe' style), the walls scattered with nuances of North India and peacock wall print, held elegant appeal and a delightful stack of Indian authors and board games. The food reasonably good and held its own. With their menu still growing, I have a feeling their signature dish is yet to land. Our lunch " Goat chop Biryani, Kulcha, chilli garlic naan (yum), peco peco chicken and Afghani chicken didnt make it to pictures, sadly. Certainly going back to sample more of the menu. @Outback.And.About

Went there last night for a dinner and it turned into a big disappointing meal..

Positives: DECOR.. thats it. The color selection, wallpapers, lighting, paneling, bar counter was all beautifully done up. Full marks to the decorator to blend everything together.. It reminds you of Taj Palace Colaba in parts as well as the leopold and the Britannia cafe. The rich Parsi heritage which blends in with the colonial era dining rooms/halls.. However the good part ends here..

Food: The menu is highly uninspiring.. there was nothing remotely Bombay about it.. believed it was created more to appease the masses .. putting interesting names to a dish simply doesnt really changes it much..

Couldnt find a bun maska, vada pav, bhurji pav, irani biryani/pulau or anything that symbolizes Bombay.

Taste: Well below average. We ordered the following with 2 kingfisher pints

-Paneer Tikka Sizzler which came out not marinated well, undercooked and with NO sizzle in it.. served on a normal plate. -Palak Patta Chat - too much batter on the spinach leaves, not crunchy enough, not seasoned well. Combination of chutneys and the curd did not blend in together.. -Taj Mumbai Chicken Tikka - way below the mark.. bland, had no flavor of Tandoor/clay oven in it , under seasoned and under-cooked. You gotta read up the recipe for an authentic Tikka .. this wasnt one. Chicken Biryani - Possibly worse of the lot.. It was a hurried combination of rice and chicken cooked together with fried onions thrown on top. Rice grains were sticky, broken and one could easily tell that the flavors did not seep into it as they were tossed in fry pan rather cooked in a Handi or an earthen pot. This dish can possibly carry the entire meal in itself if done right as its supposed to rich flavorful and a complete meal in itself.. However, simply throwing in some spices with rice & chicken DOES NOT makes it a biryani!

A suggestion for the management : You have an excellent location, beautiful decor, lovely name and if you play it to its strength will become hugely popular as you would be introducing this taste to the westerners .. and as you guys are well aware Indian food is WAY WAY beyond the butter chickens, saag paneers or the garlic naans.. Make the bold move and play true to your core and you will have a cult following in Perth..

Best of luck but in its present food quality and taste I cant recommend it to any of my Indian origin or my White...

I was invited to dinner by a friend of a friend(long story) , but as North Indian food was promised, I accepted the invitation cautiously …… On arrival, things looked promising as the place was packed…!! We got a table after half an hour, but my oh my, was it worth the wait…..!! The palak paneer, chana masala, dahl, roti and garlic naan were as good as or better than anything I’ve had from all over the world, India included…! The chicken, fish and meat dishes were absolutely excellent, and the kulfi was PFM…!! I insisted on meeting the owner (Sasha) , chef( who actually turned 38 on the day- the cake was excellent…!) and the guys in the kitchen to convey my most heartfelt praise and thanks for serving up one of the best meals I’ve had - and I’ve actually had palak paneer, chana, dahl and garlic naan twice already in the last week…!!! If you’re going, do make a reservation- we mugs had already planned on actually having a beer and a burger at our hotel (the Pan Pacific Perth) but the promise of northern Indian food was not to be missed….and well, what happened after has been said. If you like North Indian food, do give Colaba Social a try….. you will be blown away….. This is my first review ever- I have always been too lazy to bother posting anything, but to find such a gem of a restaurant in Perth had me so moved I had to come out of my apathy and...

We were over today at this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my husband and my toddler where my husband had booked a table for us at 7pm. They basically wanted us gone said table won’t be available now we are booked so we asked what’s the point in reservations then? So we were disappointed to begin with and then after my husband spoke to the manager they tried to accommodate us after waiting for 35mins with a hangry toddler. Whatever food we ordered was very bland less salt and was way below average quality and tasting food. Barramundi koliwada fish fry was absolute disaster. And other things we ordered were not that great too. So basically they made our experience worst with everything. Plus when my husband wrote a review they explained that it’s a subtle and mildest starters on the menu which I didn’t feel was right . Even if any Indian recipes are subtle and mild they should be tasty, which we didn’t find today at all. We didnt even feel like sitting and eating in the restaurant we just did take away and left. So definitely dnt recommend this restaurant going specially with a toddler and won’t go back to this restaurant at all was a total waste of money...
