We went there once during dinner service on a weekday- had their nasi kandar set and honestly- the vegetables were amazing! Fried onion was great, and all taste very homey. The wait that time was reasonable (1/2 hour) as we also ordered some extra things that needed to be cooked spontaneously.
The experience was great and hence we went back for breakfast on a weekend. Unfortunately, this time the service was disappointing. We ordered roti canai set - we can see that the whole restaurant is waiting for their food. Sat there for 20 minutes and I can see no food is being sent out except two glasses of teh. When they finally sent something out = it’s in takeaway box and they were preparing for takeaways the whole time while there are so many dine in customers waiting ! I can see that there are so many customers who came before me look a bit impatient waiting. I was rushing so I asked when would be my meal be prepared. As a customer- I just really need to know what’s the estimate time I need to wait. If they are slowly sending out food to those other customers that have been waiting- it’s fine for me…. But nothing is being sent out. The response I got from the cashier was also quite disappointing- told me that there are other people waiting in front of me so I would need to wait. That’s really not the main point I am asking - I am asking how long I need to wait- are they even preparing the food for the dine in people or they just gonna prioritise the takeaways ? I asked for refund in the end. They did process my refund quickly.
I understand it’s difficult to get extra pair of hands in the kitchen these days but I think it’s fair to at least let the customers know that they need to wait for at least XX minutes before ordering. I don’t think that’s asking for too much. Unfortunately we wouldn’t come back again, thought the first experience we had...
Read moreAre you tired of sub-par, so called great Malaysian / Singaporean food in Perth, you know the ones where the photos in the menu or often on Facebook look better than the reality of it and the prices are often ridiculous.
Well Perth has definitely got a gem of a restaurant and for those of you living South of the River, specifically in East Vic Park, you are definitely in for a treat. The newly opened Samy's Curry House (previously at the old BananaBro restaurant) is simply superb... so brilliant was the food that unfortunately we didn't have the time to take any photos BUT it is definitely worth a visit.
Run by the dynamic duo of Gurj and Singh, their customer service, generosity, rapport with the customers and their divine South Indian and Malaysian cuisine will keep you coming back time and time again. Everything from their delectable, well marinated and cooked Chicken 65, the famous onion pakora (you'll know this if you have previously dined at the original Anything La), their Banana Leaf set with multiple add on dishes, their various authentic dosas, their magnificent nasi kandar set and more, it's almost like you are transported back to Malaysia!
Most of the so called authentic Malaysian / Singaporean eateries in Perth sadly are more miss than hit, more pretend than authentic BUT Samy's has just got it spot on. If you are looking to satisfy your South Indian / Malaysian cravings, if you are looking to experience that Malaysia Truly Asia hospitality and most importantly if you are after genuine South Indian / Malaysian cuisine then look no further than Samy's Curry House, open Mon to Sun 9.30am to 3pm and again...
Read moreVery disappointing experience. We were seated at an empty table that hadn’t even been cleaned and had to ask staff to wipe it down. Service was extremely slow — we waited over an hour, and dishes came out at completely different times. My husband finished eating 30 minutes before any of my dishes even arrived. The roti was dry, and the prawns in the sambal weren’t deveined or properly cleaned.
I had ordered a fish curry to go with my banana leaf meal, but it only arrived 20 minutes later and only after I complained — by then, my rice was cold and I was completely put off by my meal. Everything felt disorganised and disjointed. When I raised these issues, there was barely any proper apology or acknowledgment. They offered to replace the prawn sambal, but after seeing how poorly the seafood was cleaned, I didn’t want to risk it as I am 32 weeks pregnant and wait any longer.
Overall, poor service, poorly handled, and definitely not worth the wait...
