Tbh everything there was good except the waitress.
The noodles and the side dishes were nice and served quickly. The restaurant is spacious, and the hygiene is fine. I like the brightness and the simple design there personally.
However, the waitress I met today ruined everything. We arrived around 1 pm today. That waitress asked how many people we had today, and then she assigned a 4 seats table to us. However, she asked us to swap the table later for another table with 3 ppl as they had a kid. Iirc she asked us to swap the table from table 13 to table 15. I could understand that she wanted to be considerate and nice to the family behind us. As a worker at the catering, I could totally understand. So that my friend and I agreed to swap the table. At that time, the family behind us and my friend and I had made the order already. It was not necessary to swap the table. But it was still fine after the family and us swapped the table.
The reason why I felt very disappointed started from the food delivery.
First of all, she didn't communicate well with her coworkers. The runners today did a great job. They delivered the food to the table real quick. However, the waitress who served us didn't inform the runners that she changed the table at the beginning. So, the orders shall be swapped as well. So the runners kept delivering the wrong food to our table.
The runner delivered the correct food to us table after she informed the runners the table had been changed. I confirmed that the food belonged to us in both Mandarin and English as well(the staff there communicate in Mandarin). But I didn't know they ignored me and still took out my food to the family. After that, the family told them they didn't order the food I ordered.
Then, the same waitress I kept mentioning previously came back to me around 3-5 mins later and reconfirmed my order again. I told her I had confirmed with her before she took out my plate. The waitress asked me to calm down and said she would fix it. It made me feel most disrespectful and disappointed. It sounded like I was a troublemaker, but actually, it was her fault. She didn't manage the whole process well. Also, she was so rude. I didn't expect to have an experience like that.
In the end, the waitress who was throughout the whole story apologized to us, but she was not sincere at all.
I wish the management could improve the customer service training of that...
Read moreThe restaurant has a nice vibe and is clean and tidy. The food had pretty big variability in terms of quality, so I'll address them individually. The service was pretty lacking; the food took some time to stay coming out, but some had tk wait much longer than others; one order of fried wontons was forgotten, but came out shortly after asking, so it might have just been sitting there unattended the whole time..
NOODLES: in general, were pretty good quality noodles. We chose the Thick noodles, in both varieties of the soup noodles: Clear soup - was a bit lacking in flavour, but texture was good and nice and fresh Laksa - was nice and rich - I personally would like a more creamier soup, but otherwise, it was much more preferred I've the clear soup.
MEAT: We got Beef Brisket & BBQ Pork; Beef Brisket - relatively tender and OK In terms of flavour BBQ Pork - quite tasty and a good amount of fat, which gave it both tenderness and flavour. more preferred over the Beef Brisket
MAIN: We got a Chee Cheong Fun, it had a good level of seasoning and flavour, and the Cheong Fun was soft and smooth as you'd expect. Overall, it was just at our expectations.
SIDE: We got the fried Wontons: Despite them being forgotten and needing us to check where they were at after waiting a very long time, flavour-wise, they were pretty decent. Even though they were basically cold by the time we ate it, the wonton skin was also light and crispy.
DRINK: We got two Teh Tariks. We got one with less ice, and one with less sweetness: Both tasted about the same, extremely bland and watered down. We could barely taste any milk, it essentially tasted like really really diluted tea. Extremely disappointing.
Honourable mention to the Chilli (oil); very flavourful, and there were no issues asking...
Read moreIf you have a list of eateries to try, please add Yip AU. You may not be able to go back due to where you live or parking in East Vic Park can be challenging, etc., but you have got to try their dishes, even if it's only once!
I didn't mind waiting to be seated, or having to put my jacket on cause it was a bit chilly inside. My dry homemade thin noodle with light sauce and deep fried Haka style pork compensated for it! The noodles were cooked al dente, proportionately seasoned, and, most critically, made my taste buds sing! (I almost could hear the Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody song!!) I've tasted other hand made noodle before, and while they're fresh, Yip AU's uncle chef made it so special. For me, it was important that I don't taste the flour, and it was so! (Forgive my extra sensitive buds...)
Order at the counter or you can scan at the table to order. Once you're ready, head over to the condiment table to grab your water, pickled cut chilli, and soy sauce (or something like that). There's chilli sauce on the table, too, if you must have your dish extra spicy.
Plenty on the drink menu, including Cham (teh tarik and coffee) and yes, you can tell them the sugar level you wish if you don't want to drink sugar, garnished with Cham.
There's plenty of space in the restaurant and I saw parents with pram. Young kids may love watching Uncle making the noodles if you get in early enough. The place can be crowded, but you'll be greeted and taken care of by the friendly staff. And you may even get to chat with the Uncle who makes the noodle!
I'll be back for more! There's plenty to try, but it's also because the noodles...
