Thank you for your response. However, I need to point out that you did not address the issues I raised in my original review regarding the comments made by your staff, such as “we keep our vegans in the freezer” and joking about “eating vegans.” The fact that these remarks were not acknowledged in your reply is concerning and adds to the discomfort I felt during my visit.
While I understand that my Messenger profile is locked, I want to note that throughout my attempts to contact your restaurant multiple times, I could see that my messages were seen but went unanswered. I communicate with multiple businesses on Facebook and have never had an issue due to my profile being locked, which makes the lack of response especially frustrating. This ultimately led me to visit in person, only to be met with dismissive remarks instead of constructive dialogue.
I truly hope that Sandy Hook Tavern can take this feedback to heart and make changes that foster a more welcoming atmosphere for vegans and all diners. Creating an environment where every customer feels valued would undoubtedly enhance the dining experience for everyone.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to seeing positive changes in the future.
October 2024… I recently dined at Sandy Hook Tavern with two friends, eager to explore their menu. The three of us are all vegans. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that there were no vegan-friendly options available. Prior to my visit, I had reached out via Facebook Messenger four times over a couple of months to ask about vegan offerings, but I received no response.
When I inquired with one of the servers if anything could be made vegan, I was told to wait for the “vegan queen.” My initial excitement quickly faded when she arrived and bluntly informed me that they are primarily a steakhouse. To my shock, she further remarked that they “keep their vegans in the freezer” and even casually mentioned that they “eat vegans.”
This comment left me feeling deeply uncomfortable and threatened, as it seemed to mock and trivialize the dietary choices of those seeking vegan options. Instead of a warm welcome or creative solutions, the response felt dismissive and quite hostile.
On a more positive note, the avocado salad and chips they eventually offered were beautifully presented and reasonably priced, showcasing some culinary skill. However, the overall atmosphere, despite recent renovations, felt somewhat dull and lacking in warmth, which only added to my discomfort during the visit.
In summary, while the food was enjoyable, the initial experience was troubling and left much to be desired. If you're a vegan considering Sandy Hook Tavern, be prepared for an unconventional and potentially...
Read moreI had a burbon and coke with lime n ice in a middy glass. at the bar on a friday arvo few weeks ago when I noticed few of the staff members getting told off by a lady who looked to be their manager.
Later on I went to the toilet and happened to pump in to one of the staff members, as I’m not from Esperance I briefly wanted to ask about recommendations for local sightseeing. As the staff member was describing and recommending places to go and see a senior coworker told the staff off for talking with me. I felt truly sad for the worker as the person was just doing the bare essentials of hospitality- being welcoming and warm with the clients.
I hope you understand the importance of welcoming visitors in your little town.
It made me feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable. I felt sorry for the worker who was just...
Read moreThis is a lovely pub with really good traditional pub food, friendly staff and a nice warm fire in winter. I don’t get why it doesn’t have higher ratings.
We usually ask to share a meal and then supplement it with a side of veggies because neither of us can finish a huge pub meal. They didn’t have a side of veggies on the menu but they added a plate of veggies to our order without batting an eyelid. The schnitzel was delicious and was a proper piece of chicken, not the ‘reconstituted’ stuff. The veggies were also delicious. Prices were reasonable, I thought. $54 for a schnitzel meal, additional plate of veggies, a glass of wine and a G&T. Serves were generous. You see the serves in the photo before we divided them. We were not able to finish it all. (The...
