Such a let down, I can’t not write a review. We went for breakfast and got in just in time before the breakfast menu closed. The staff behind the bar seemed annoyed we were ordering but had made no attempt to greet us, tell us the breakfast menu was about to finish or that there was a wait. In a restaurant with only 3 other tables waiting for food I find 40 minutes too long a wait for 2 dishes and had we known we would have gone else where. When the meals finally came walking towards us (from the most lovely waiter- she was a delight) my eyes lit up. I ordered the big breakfast and I was ready for the whole lot of it…sadly bits were missing. No mushrooms at all and only half of a shriveled up sausage on the plate? Surely this can’t be right. I just saw the bloke behind me get 2 whole sausages. I asked the waiter who was returning someone else’s incorrect dish to please check mine with the kitchen too. While my meal is in the kitchen being fixed up my friend cuts into her poached egg to discover its hard boiled and her meal is cold. My meal comes back and I have to laugh they have replaced my half sausage with 2 whole ones. Plus I got the mushrooms off the incorrect meal that was sent back by another table. It was the bits of poached egg mixed through that gave it away. Now it’s gotten to be a bit of a joke. Can we complain about the hard boiled egg? I mean … yeah we paid good money. We’ve been waiting a long time and we just want some good food. The manager comes out and try’s to rectify the issue. We are offered a round of coffees, a refund for meals and told we can have the bad breakfasts or they can make us something off the lunch menu (the breakfast menu is now closed) he could see they were poorly executed and explained the lunch menu will be better. We decide to stay, choose some new dishes and order. I was not surprised, of course my first choice is unavailable today. That’s fine, I had some back up options. After being charged the difference in price I was left a bit stumped. Why am I paying more money because the kitchen couldn’t make the meal to a decent standard/ remake what I had wanted originally or even my first choice off the lunch menu. Moving on- another half an hour later our lunches arrive. The steak was cooked perfectly but overall it was an underwhelming meal. My back up option brisket was a bowl of nice hot mashed potato and overcooked luke-warm brisket. I was hungry and the food was mostly edible. It just doesn’t sit well spending that much money… more than we had initially intended or that much time… 2 hours total. For probably one of worst breakfast experiences I’ve had. Bar staff and kitchen needs attention as we could hear whispers of dissatisfaction from other tables too. The coffee was GREAT. The venue is BEAUTIFUL. The manager and waiter tried their best. We won’t be back but we hope it gets better for...

We had no preconception after deciding to try Mr Chapple for lunch on Sunday, we called a few days before to book, but the phone recording indicated they don't take bookings, only walk in's - I cannot help but feel that is an error.

We checked the menu online, which only showed a few nibbles and no meals, and amazingly; no wine, only beer and cocktails - this should be remedied pronto!!

Anyway, we decided to head to Fremantle and take a chance, if we could not get a table, there were plenty of other options, and if they don't actually serve meals, likewise, we would walk off.

As it turned out, I called again to ask about if they had tables and chairs, or just benches and stools, which, if they had, we would not bother with - turns out they do serve meals, have wine and we could make a booking - uber confusing!!

Anyway, the lunch was a great reward for effort, the salt and pepper squid was just sublime, probably the best either of us had ever had!

The mains were equally pleasant and all were priced very fairly.

Staff were very friendly and the service was prompt and courteous.

All in all we will certainly be back, now we know the tricks of the trade in making a booking, just ignore the phone message, and that they have wine and proper food available.

So, besides the very ordinary and confusing mixed messages noted above, we were very impressed and do recommend others...

Decor - really nice!

Vibe - great !

Food and service ? not so good.

Wings- excellent! Really tasty and worth the price.

Everything else? The price did not equate for what you received.

Ceviche - Overpriced. Hardly ANYTHING on the plate. 3 tiny thin slices of fish.

Duck salad - Overpriced. Not enough duck in the salad. The salad was wet and soggy. It was lacking. What little duck there was, was dry and chewy.

Scallops - WAY Overpriced. The scallops were tiny and $6 each! ?

Beetroot hummus- soggy and BLAND. It was too wet and runny. The consistency was wrong.

Staff- slow and disorganised. We had to ask for plates. We had to ask for cutlery. We had to ask for something to keep the white wine cold. They didn’t have anything, so they put it in the fridge. It was unnecessarily chaotic and disorganised. It’s Pretty easy - once you take an order, you immediately put plates and cutlery down on the table, before moving onto anything else so that when the food arrives the customer has what they need. We weren’t the only ones chasing plates and cutlery, whilst food was going cold, the day we were there.

The place looks great! The atmosphere is great! Either lower the prices, or raise the standard, and PORTIONS of the food, to match the price.

Quite Disappointing. Could be teething problems. Will give it another go sometime down the track.

Currently, it’s good for a drink...

My colleague and I saw the rooftop of Mr Chapple as we were driving past it the night before, so we decided to go check it out the following day. This is a converted synagogue and it’s absolutely beautiful inside. We ended up going there for three afternoons in a row, as we loved the service and the great beers they have on tap. Also, please check out that Espresso Martini — it looks like a piece of art! I’d love to go back and try out the adjacent Thai restaurant, Tonic + Ginger.

Today, on ANZAC Day, we decided to grab lunch at Mr Chapple's in Fremantle. Despite the quiet streets due to the weather, the restaurant was bustling with activity. We enjoyed our drinks and meals - I had the Barramundi and Chip while Ness, tried the Baked Cauliflower and Chilli. The servings were generous and the food was delicious. Overall, it was a great experience and we wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

We have drank and eaten here quite a few times. It is one of our favourites when in Freo, which is rather frequently. Today we had a glass of the Clare Valley Riesling and a couple of share plates. The chicken bao and the beef brisket skewers. Both delicious. Highly recommended.
