I’m currently staying here and booked this place last minute. I checked in on Wednesday and am writing this on Saturday. When I arrived, the staff were polite and used their map to direct me to my room, which was helpful. However, my experience since then has been quite disappointing.
The room is very small, which I understand given the building’s history as a former prison and the addition of en-suites. Still, with four people and everyone having luggage, the space feels incredibly cramped and hard to move around in.
The kitchen is limited, with only gas stovetops, microwaves, and a flat iron. The common area isn’t inviting at all—it feels cold, dull, and the atmosphere isn’t great. It’s definitely not a space you’d want to spend time in.
In the room, the duvets are thin, the pillows are flat, and the bottom sheet was rough and bobbly due to pilling. Housekeeping has only come in to empty the bin or change beds when someone checks out. No one had vacuumed until today, but the bathroom still hasn’t been touched. I’ve had to buy my own cleaning supplies just to keep it usable.
The air conditioning unit was also a big issue. It was leaking, making strange noises, and icicles were falling from it. We had the temperature set at 21–22 degrees, and the amount of dust was shocking. I reported it to the manager, who was quite standoffish and insisted it had been serviced two weeks ago. She mentioned they hire a contractor to service the units every three months. However, when the maintenance worker arrived, he confirmed it had not been serviced and removed the unit to be cleaned.
One of the girls in the room has now become ill, which she believes is from the AC—she’s experienced this before and recognised the symptoms. She’s now had to book separate accommodation at her own expense.
Overall, I would not recommend staying here. The cramped rooms, poor maintenance, lack of cleanliness, and uninviting environment have made this a really...
Read moreA unique and unusual place to stay. This heritage site has been transformed into a great little hostel. It was our first time staying in a hostel, so the bar is now set very high now. It exceeded our expectations. It has a great setup. The facilities are clean. Nice well equipped community kitchen with a nice tv lounge and dining area. Showers, toilets, and laundry facilities just off this area are clean and look very new. There is lots of outdoor space and games to play. A lovely, unexpected touch was the free pancakes on Sunday cooked by a very nice lady. The cell room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. There was more than enough room with a little table and stool to pop your things on. The bunk bed was comfortable, and there was an added bonus of a little heater. Bedding and towel were included, don't forget your toiletries!. Our cell block B had a toilet and shower on the same floor, plus an additional one at the bottom of the stairs. There are a few information boards around with some facts regarding the prison and prisoners, which is a nice touch. This is in a perfect location right next door to the Fremantle prison museum entrance, which is behind the iconic Freo markets. This is about a 10 -15 minute walk from the train station. Be aware that you have to pay for parking which isn't cheap. We opted to take the train, which was convenient. There is also a big IGA across the road from the markets to get all your essentials. All the staff we encountered were friendly. I would definitely recommend staying here, if only like us, it was for 1 night to have the experience of staying in a...

I want to make it clear i did not stay at this hostel so i cannot speak for the actual hostel itself however, i felt incredibly disheartened by the customer service.
I sent an email explaining that i am in a very dire and stressful situation where i thought i was going to homeless on my last night in perth. I saw they had rooms available and i wasnt fussed on the price but they said it was a minimum two night stay. My friend was also staying here who advised (and showed me screenshots) that she only booked the one night with no issues and advised i call. I then called and they said ‘noop cant help’ so i explained that my friend has and they asked for her name. I proceeded to say my friends name (abbreviated and full name) to which they go “theres no one here under that name, we cant help”. I then messaged my friend. Not only freaking out about having no where to sleep, but then for my friend who apparently doesnt have a booking? She then called the hostel and they told her she has a booking and its for one night. This did NOT make sense to me and it felt like for some reason i was targeted and they didnt want me there. Luckily i found an amazing hostel called pirates which i highly recommend over this hostel. The atmosphere was great, everyone was welcoming and the beds were super comfy (also only...
