I visited this place again two nights ago. What a great resto! I love food but I don't often feel the need to write reviews. I have written a couple, all positive - I might add, one for Super Butcher, a solid butcher shop with a funny butchered sense of humour - if you know what happened to me! That's located right across the road from this place! The other review was about great customer service I received from a couple of young staff members who resolved an annoying tech issue with an iPhone for my teenager, allowing her to stay 'social' that was at JB Hi-Fi over at PacFair.
Now, about this place. WTL! I've been here a handful of times, but it's finally starting to fill my stomach and grab my heart! Welcome to my third 'Googled' review this time for a simple light of an idea! Hidden away from the WIP chaos that is the GC highway, it sits in a carpark, inside a dark yurt-like structure - something you might picture if you were somehow transported back to the days of Genghis Khan - scared 😱 possibly a little too brave, bloodied and buggered - on your way to grab a wagon-full of all those white tiny homes from them green thingys that somehow poo n produce silk in 🎑 for a living.
Many newbies to the GC can't find it and if they do they don’t fully grasp the concept of Bistro Lamp. It’s like a simple lamp that, when lit, serves up a chilled glass of frosty cold Japanese beer followed by even colder 🍶 followed by heaven!
Welcome to Bistro🏮, a warm intimate home-away-from-home place - a crafted cocoon of Japanese-mastered perfected plates meant to be shared with family and friends. Each dish competing with the previous - serving up spoonfuls of deliciousness, turning an ordinary mid-week meal into something...
Read moreONE YEAR ON... It's been 1 year Since I wrote the original review. So what's changed??
Happy hour is now 20% off drinks - no food. Some menu dishes have changed, but the popular dishes like bao buns, gyoza and Wagyu beef are still here. The Saini player deal is not available anymore - sadly. Staff are friendly, accommodating and happy to serve you. It's become busier, so be sure to book! We still love it here and will keep coming back!!
Agree - let's not spread the word about this amazing little restaurant too much! It is small, so would recommend booking ahead. They have a happy hour where you can order an entree AND a drink for $10. Great value. Would also recommend their sashimi platter to share as it also includes 3 other dishes to share. All for under $50 for 2 people. We had 2 happy hour drinks and entrees as well as the platter and had absolutely no room for dessert for just under $70. Highly recommended especially for the ambience and food. Only recommendation is to go to the bathroom before you come as it is a way around the back of the restaurant and a little ..er.....
Read moreA very low-key restaurant with high-end food. And yes, although the food was delicious, it lacked in quantity, noting that at other Japanese restaurants, I ordered similar meals and left feeling full. Here, I left hungry (not starving, but I could have eaten more) keeping in mind the amount of money I had just spent.
I did love the fusion flavour and menu items. Highlights for me were the sesame Karaage chicken & Egg plant miso. Bao buns, Gyozas & wagyu steak were all great, too.
The staff were fast to react to your needs. I do recommend booking in for the nights they have the specials as bookings are required, all though they did still serve us the $5 bao-buns. That was much appreciated.
The layout is rather tight, but cosy. I loved the architectural design of the building. It was something different and stood out from the modern and plain.
Thanks again for a lovely meal and a...
