I had a truly frustrating and disappointing experience at Chim Thai and I feel compelled to share it to warn others. My friends and I specifically chose this restaurant because it was listed as a participant in the Gourmet Traveller Gift Card program. To ensure there were no issues, I even called ahead to confirm that they accept the card, and one of their staff explicitly assured me they did.
However, after enjoying our meal and attempting to pay with the gift card, things took a bizarre and infuriating turn. The staff member at the counter flatly denied that they accept the Gourmet Traveller Gift Card, claiming she had no idea about it and didn’t know “where the money goes.” Her dismissive and uninformed attitude only added to the frustration.
To make matters worse, I called the manager to escalate the issue, hoping for some clarity or resolution. Shockingly, the manager was just as clueless and unhelpful, repeating the same vague response: “I don’t know what you want me to do—pay your bill.” This level of unprofessionalism and lack of accountability is completely unacceptable, especially from a restaurant that claims to participate in a recognized program.
Not only did this ruin the dining experience, but it also left me feeling cheated and deceived. If you don’t honor these gift cards, you shouldn’t advertise that you do—it’s misleading and reflects poorly on your establishment. For anyone considering dining here, be warned: this place seems to have no idea what they’re doing when it comes to customer service or handling basic operations.
I would strongly urge the management to sort out their internal processes and staff training. If they can’t handle something as straightforward as accepting a gift card they claim to honor, it raises serious questions about their overall professionalism. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this place unless you want to deal with incompetence and a complete lack of...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant recently and ordered a Satay Chicken, Green Curry Beef, and Stir-Fried crispy pork with Vegetables. When the Green Curry Beef arrived, I was about to serve some to my child and immediately noticed that all the beef was completely raw — not undercooked, but raw, as if someone just poured curry sauce over uncooked meat and served it.
I informed the server, who apologized and took the dish away. About 5 minutes later, they brought it back claiming it was fixed. However, when I checked again, much of the beef was still raw. I was shocked and extremely upset. I asked to speak to the manager, and someone who claimed to be the manager came over. I told her I didn’t feel safe eating at this restaurant and wanted to leave.
She asked which dish I wanted them to remove from the bill. I said the Satay Chicken. We expected the bill, but instead she came back again asking if we still wanted the remaining dish (which we never received). I told her I didn’t want anything else — we just wanted to pay and leave. In the end, they charged us for the Satay Chicken and a beer. At that point, I didn’t even care anymore. The whole experience was disorganized, confusing, and disturbing.
The restaurant wasn’t even busy, and the lighting was quite dim — which made me wonder how many other customers might have unknowingly eaten raw food. I honestly started worrying whether the Satay Chicken we did eat was cooked properly.
If you absolutely must eat here, I strongly recommend checking every dish carefully before eating. Personally, I will never return. Serving raw meat like that is not just unprofessional — it’s dangerous. Truly...
Read moreI had nice lunch there with my girl friends last week. I came back with my husband tonight and thought we would enjoy again. I ordered fillet with garlic and pepper sauce. Firstly came fillet with green apples. I have my braces on my teeth and can’t eat apple. This waitress sort like manager took the wrong dish back and placed order for pepper and garlic sauce. When it came again, it became whole fish. I said I never order whole fish and she said they will only charge for fillet in disrespectful tone and face. Then she went back to kitchen and talked loudly over at least 15 minutes. “ she ordered whole fish and only want to pay fillet… she ordered this she wants that…” I am shocked this “manager” waitress could talk about the customer in such rude way. I am really upset. I took the whole fish to confront her and explained I have new braces on my teeth and there is no way I would order whole fish. She said you pointed in the menu to me. On the menu, the whole fish and fillet are together and I don’t understand why she didn’t say I pointed fillet. Very upset and disappointed dining experience there. I don’t understand how the restaurant owner accepts such rude staff. Luckily, chef/manager Pob came and took passionate solution. To be fair, the food is nice but if the waitress is allowed to treat the customer like this way, God bless you, bad things will happen to...
