I’ve dined at all their venues - both Surfers locations, Pacific Fair and Coomera - many times, but our recent visit to Coomera for my partner’s birthday was by far the worst.
We booked ahead and were told to order through the QR code so we could split the bill. No issue there. I placed two entrées and three mains in a single order; the app asked if entrées should arrive separately or with the mains. Since everyone else chose to have everything come together, we did the same.
When meals started arriving, our entrées showed up only when the others’ mains were served. The pork skewers were okay, but the spring rolls were barely lukewarm. The supervisor even remarked our mains would be “out soon,” clearly noticing we were still waiting.
Then nothing - forty minutes passed while the rest of the table almost finished eating. I tried to catch a server’s attention but three staff members walked by without acknowledging me. I eventually had to call out loudly to be noticed. A junior staffer checked and said five minutes; another five minutes later I had to raise my voice again before the floor manager promised three minutes.
When our dishes finally arrived, presentation was careless. The fried rice looked dull with no wok char, and the chicken, pre-boiled, was still stuck in one solid clump. As someone of Thai background who’s worked over a decade in Thai kitchens and front-of-house, I know meat is normally precooked then properly finished in the wok. This chicken hadn’t even been broken up or cooked through - it was undercooked, which is a serious health hazard.
I immediately asked for a refund. Serving poultry that hasn’t been cooked through is unacceptable and dangerous. After years of being a loyal customer, this experience was incredibly disappointing and I...
Read moreI'll leave the original review I wrote below to show how good this place can be. But we came here tonight on a Tuesday and the food was just extremely average. The tofu entre was very sour compared to last time. The pork kailan was a weird experience. The outside was tender and tasty, but the middle of the pork was dry, tough and very cold. leads me to believe it is not made fresh.
The consistency is clearly off so I guess it's probably best to come not on a weekday. Maybe don't bother Monday to Thursday as it's quite clear they are rushing to get out. It's not a cheap place so I would expect a lot better.
One of the staff were mopping our table around our feet at 8pm. Just not a great experience at all, especially mop water at your feet trying to eat dry pork.
In their defence they gave us 10% off and offered to recook the pork but we just wanted to get out of there.
The food here blew my mind, the kailan crispy pork was just on another level. The flavours are all there and the pork is just cooked to perfection. I've had it twice to make sure.
The coconut rice is the show stealer, it's sweet and sticky but compliments every dish so well. The kailan mixed in with the rice is one hell of a flavour explosion.
I would almost go as far as to say it's the best Thai I've ever had. I had to invite a few friends to try it out, and they said the same. The best since Thailand.
The staff are also very friendly and so efficient. It's quite busy most of the time and it's clear why. I would definitely recommend booking a table before going.
Don't miss this one and definitely eat in over take out, eat this as fresh as they cook it and you won't be disappointed. An amazing restaurant with amazing food. Don't miss the coconut rice, it's the...
Read moreMyself and my daughter got food poisoning from the Mango Sticky Rice. I was so unwell I ended up in hospital for 3 days on IV fluids and anti-nausea meds. I have been hesitant to post this publicly but at the end of the day if they cared about their reputation or - most importantly - their customers’ health, they would ensure they are cooking/storing/serving food correctly in the first place to avoid this occurring. I would hate this to happen to anyone else, I have never been so violently ill. The rice is absolutely what caused us both to be sick as it is the only dish we both ate in the days leading up to getting sick. My husband ate at the restaurant with us but did not eat the rice and didn’t get sick. We’ve eaten here a few times in the past but unfortunately this time we waited a ridiculous amount of time for our food, and in hindsight the rice did not look or taste fresh so I shouldn’t have eaten it or shared with my daughter but it absolutely should not have been served. I hope the restaurant can review its processes to ensure this doesn’t happen to...
