Finally got around to trying this place recently, after seeing all the positive reviews.
Overall: Okay, not great. I think it tries to be extraordinary, but simply falls short. No need to bother again, we’ll be going back to our usual Italian spot in Varsity.
Details: Food and wine are okay, with more emphasis on appearance than taste in a couple dishes. As others noted, prices a bit on the high side but not too outrageous.
No views at all, despite the proximity to the lake: you get a choice of a moderately busy street view or the ground floor of an apartment building view.
Progressively louder music and patrons from the resto next door. Too noisy to have a good chat, so had to cut our evening short. Pity.
Service was fine. The supervisor woman (?) swans from table to table, trying to act as some kind of everyone’s favourite local publican persona, but it does not quite succeed in the end. Odd, but interesting to watch.
A bit of a walk to the loo – it’s at the other end of the building. Something to keep in mind if you have little kids with you or after a couple wines. Overhearing staff complaining about the owner in the loo was...
Read moreMy husband and I ordered takeaway from Oscar Italia on New Years Eve. When collecting our order my husband was told that our pizza had been given away to another customer and he would need to wait for a new pizza. In the mean time the arancini were put in the warmer and caught on fire. They tried to give these to my husband even thought they were burnt and inedible. He had to ask for new arancini. After waiting (for both the new pizza and arancini) and by the time he got home the bruschetta was very soggy and was also inedible due to being ready for so long. The vegetarian pizza also had a black coarse hair on it which was very unappetising and unfortunately turned me off eating. I contacted Oscar Italia on Instagram to inform them of our disappointing experience as I could not find their business email and they had closed for holidays. I was told we would receive a refund for our meal and to contact their email with our details which I did. I haven’t received a reply or contact since. This was over a month ago now. Very dissatisfied with our whole experience with Oscar Italia. We won’t be giving them a second chance after the poor...
Read more5 star for food, 2 star for service. The food makes up for the service though. All staff are polite and nice, howveer just seems they are micro managed and cant do their jobs or the system is just not efficient as there was plenty of wait staff for not a full restaurant. Id hate to think what it would be like when full.
We were sat down without menus, therefore couldnt peruse the menu before the waiter came back. Saw another table leave due to not being attended to by wait staff in a timely manner.
To me, it seems odd that drinks came out at different times. EG order 2 wines and 1 beer, for some reason 1 wine came out, and then the other 2 drinks 10 mins later.
Food came out quicker than the menus did and at a good quality. Would recommend bruschetta, meatballs, pastas. If u go on a sunday, they have live sax player.
I will edit this review to a 4 or even 5 when the...
