Lunch Date at Paddock Bakery - Burleigh
So my daughter Bridget had been requesting a mummy daugher date, so today was the day and we decided on Paddock Bakery at Burleigh. On arrival the place was packed, we quickly walked and stood at the end of the line which was already outside the restaurant and started looking at the menu to decide what to have. Decisions.... Decisions.... There is so much to choose from, from dippy eggs to traditional smashed avo on sourdough, to the large assortment of yummy cakes and pastries tucked behind the glass cabinet. We ordered ice lattes/mochas and decided on going halves in a Sausage Roll and of course a sweet... We chose the biggest, most chocolatey thing we could find, she definitely is my daughter.. It was a Bunny Bottom Cruffin, all in the spirit of Easter 🐣....
We quickly paid and took our seats at a inside windows booth, with comfy pillows and a rustic timber top and took our obligatory selfies of course 🤣🤣. Not long after our food was brought out and our drinks not 2 minutes later. Super Impressed with the service and all done with a smile. We quickly got down to business and started eating, until our eyes were bigger then our bellies. Once finished although in our food coma we could of easily settled into that windows seat for the arvo we dusted ourselves off (yes we are messy eaters... no judgement please) and walked back to our car.
We discussed our date in detail on the way home and decided it was a good choice and we will definitely be back again in the near future. Thank you Paddock Bakery, yes while some of you may say the prices a little expensive the food is good quality, large servings so definitely value for money and unlike so many other restaurants/cafes the pictures in their instagram looks exactly like what you get on your plate. In this day and age what we they advertise and what we receive are usually far and few between but I definitely recommend Paddock Bakery.

Read morePopular setting - dog-friendly, easy Covid QR registration, street-side horse float stall selling take-away bread, patisserie, other goods, coffee and other drinks. The wood-fired oven sits indoors on the western edge with floor-2-ceiling glass connecting visitors to the coal face
We checked the extensive menu and would have been happy with lots of items so checked in for breakfast
The spacious outdoor, shady eating spaces were inviting but we spotted the Loft which had just reopened and climbed the stairs - we chose the best table - at the edge looking west across the verandah, welcomed by a light breeze
We ordered two dishes - Pea and halloumi fritters with avocado [$18.9] with 2 poached eggs, Spring greens, radish, herbs and house-made sweet chilli jam - generous fritters, perfect eggs and accompaniments; and
Purple toast [$16.9] roasted beetroot and za'atar puree, poached eggs, Meredith goats' milk feta, honey-roasted walnuts, Joseph cold-pressed olive oil and fresh rosemary on house wood-fired 7-grain sourdough toast - the walnuts were amazing - fresh, perfect halves, delicious honey and a wonderful light roast
We enjoyed two large coffees each [$5/cup] - very relaxing meal
We returned the next day and scored our previous table, sharing a Benny bagel w salmon and spinach [$18.9] poached eggs, house-made hollandaise and soft herbs on wood-fired Jerusalem bagel then an almond croissant. Unfortunately, the bagel didn't have a traditional chewy texture and may have been waiting a while before serving as the toppings softened it like a sponge
We didn't rate our coffees as highly as those the day before
On our last day at Burleigh Heads [a Saturday], we returned to a bustling setting where processes had broken down - people were ordering sit-down food from the horse float and the queues were too long for us to have a relaxing breakfast before our rental apartment's check-out time. We left for a nearby alternative

Read moreI heard about Bam Bam Bakehouse before I knew of Paddock Bakery, but only recently learnt that they're from the same owners and Paddock was the first cab off the rank. I think I prefer the OG as there’s a lot more seating at Paddock, and the ambience is hard to beat. The place has so much character that I even got a chuckle from the fitout of the toilet!
But back to food... despite us arriving around 1pm there were plenty of items still available in the pastry cabinet. Conversely one of the food menu items I wanted was not available.
We ordered: Christmas cruffin, $8.90 - semi-sourdough cruffin layered with Christmas spices, filled with almond marzipan cream, topped with candied fruits & gingerbread man breakfast cruffin, $7.90 - with ham and optional egg dippy eggs, $13.90 - two soft boiled free range eggs with buttered sourdough soldiers, bacon bits, parsley & organic labna; plus halloumi sticks $5
We originally intended the breakfast cruffin for my son but he wanted to look at the options for himself and insisted on the Christmas cruffin because it was Christmas time, so I got the breakfast cruffin when my original choice of the Japanese curry puffs weren’t available. This was the first time I’ve ever had a cruffin so it was a great introduction having one savoury one to myself, and eating a sizeable chunk of my son’s sweeter version. The combo actually worked really well and I’d happily do a similar pairing in future.
Wifey’s dippy eggs were nice but it didn’t have the same oomph factor as the cruffins. Really glad I ended up going with the baked goods this time and I’ll definitely hit up some of the other patisserie options in...
