Appalling. RUN AWAY!!
Aggressive management was abusive when we had sat in her 90% vacant seating area and had already confirmed we were leaving outside peak hours around 2pm today.
I have been a regular customer for over 18 months, brought many people from my business to this spot, yet never been spoken to in such an outwardly hostile manner, was worse that it was by management, another local business owner.
On many occasions I’ve paid the over priced rates, with no question, for their sub standard sushi & seafood. There are plenty of amazing places to get seafood without the drama.
I’ll never be back, or send anyone again. Not at all good value. Frightening review of the ammonia, with so many 1 star reviews: left by multiple others whom like me have all experienced such hostility, like I did today. Toxic behaviour. Despicable service…
I wonder what learnings have been going through their team, and their culture as a workplace, and how high rotation of staff must be??
Do yourself a favour and head to the Southport Wharf for daily catch prawns $50 per kg, not $90, as sold here.
Or even better, head to a sensational experience at Miami Fish market, far greater range, superior quality & you don’t get harassed by 2 staff members including management within 1 minute… about some under used seating when your a...
Read moreOur family are regulars here, 5 years average $100 a weekend. I have to say it’s cheap & usually consistent with taste most of all very fast turnaround.perfect with a toddler..The last few months lunches has been extremely disappointing though, grilled fish was watery(grilled frozen),grilled bugs tough & over cooked and twice the tuna sashimi is definitely not fresh! A couple of oysters are off & I let it go because I understand that sometimes this thing happens.but this Saturday my 13 yr old daughter ordered prawn tempura like she always does she had 1 or 2 prawns until I decided to taste it.. it was a pungent smell & taste of ammonia!!! For $29 for 4 prawns of course I spoke to the Japanese chef who is always in the front handling the sashimi’s.I told him about the ammonia and his reply to me was “I know I don’t like it either” he explained they dip it in a chemical to enhance the color, He was embarrassed & apologetic, I got my refund. This fish monger is the most expensive in the Gold Coast & I don’t mind at all paying but to deliberately serve something that can potentially hospitalize people and know That is not edible is just bad bad ethics! So follow the golden rule if you all decide to dine here...if it doesn’t smell of the ocean don’t eat it! Goodbye Reef we will...
Read moreWe visit regularly (min once per week for a sashimi platter, grilled fish, drinks and that is just us for adults let alone what our kids get) and had often looked forward to our times eating here.
However the manager/owner person has absolutely destroyed the reputation in one fell swoop. He has been photographed in previous posts and is an older Caucasian man.
The way he speaks and treats his staff is astounding. Openly berating them behind the counter in front of customers for faults that are not their issue. The line was growing. The staff were working and he would rather yell at a staff member than allow the busy period to be dealt with.
His visible frustration when our daughter went up to order her favourite food (she is an articulate 6yo carrying cash and practising how to order) meant we are working out where to spend instead. Literally was annoyed a child went and ordered some fish roe!
He chewed Boris, one of our favourite servers, why? Because the line serving wasn’t fast enough. Boris had been busy seating an elderly couple who couldn’t sit at the high tables. He also has been working the whole exterior section mainly alone. And it was full, busy and demanding.
If fair work investigate I am happy to confirm how he treats staff...
