This place has a good vibe and there's a long queue to get a table. I was told they have a booking system in which you'll have to book 2 hrs upfront but not sure how the booking system works (maybe a phone call booking system) as there's no online booking on their website.
If you walk in during busy times, go to the front staff and they will provide a buzzer. The buzzer will buzz when your table is ready.
We waited 30 mins for a table. And does it worth the wait? The answer is no. This is by far the worst Japanese restaurant we have ever come across that is run by Japanese. The thickness of the sushi is about half the size of standard sushi. The sashimi doesn't taste fresh. It tastes more like “thawed sashimi”. The standard udon noodles usually come with a few toppings but the most common ones can be wakame (seaweed), aburaage (deep-fried tofu) and naruto (Japanese fish cake). From memory, the udon noodle soups on the menu come with deep-fried tofu but they also have red cabbage and bean sprouts!!! Really?? Cabbage and bean sprouts on Udon Noodle soup? We requested to have our Udon noodle soup without the bean sprouts and the cabbage but we were told to go with the plain udon noodle soup option instead.
Chicken karaage was very dark brown. You can tell that the oil has been recycled and reused too many times. The gyoza, this might sound funny but both my husband and I find the taste, the shape and the texture exactly the same as the famous frozen KBs Prawn Gyoza you can find from Coles or Woolies.
One of the sushi we ordered was flooded with mayonnaise and sweet chilli sauce. This is our first time having sushi with sweet chilli sauce. Very unusual. The agedashi tofu and the wagyu beef are ok. The best dish we had was the Renkon Chips (lotus root chips).
This is a nice sushi train restaurant where you can get a quick bite and hang out with friends that allow split bills but if you're after authentic Japanese food, this is not the...
Read moreHorribly disappointed. It's a public holiday today, and we often make a pilgrimage to Sushi Honba on holidays. Not anymore. Today was very busy and we were prepared for that. My husband went to the reception desk, and before he could say anything, the greeter looked at him, turned her back and started speaking to someone else. The other host, a tall young fellow, seemed to realise how rude she was and asked her to deal with my husband first. We got a buzzer number and were waiting outside in the sun for about twenty minutes before my daughter went inside to get out of the heat. I went in with her, and there were no seats in the waiting area so we stood in a corner next to the entrance (away from the door). My husband came in and there wasn't much space so he went back outside. A family got up from the waiting area and as we were about to sit, the hostess called me to the desk. I thought our number was ready, instead she told me there were people ahead of me. I said we weren't cutting, we're waiting out of the sun. She said the buzzer would ring and pointed outside as if to say we had to go back outside. I showed her the free seats on the waiting bench, and she kept motioning for us to go back outside. She said "other people waiting before you, please go outside". I looked behind me and the seats were still available, some people were sitting on the curb outside and didn't seem interested in going in. She was very condescending and made me feel as though I was begging for food or trying to cut the line. We are paying customers. The food is truly worth the wait and I could have easily caused a scene inside the restaurant, but I would have come across as some sort of troublemaker. What a shame that this place has become so popular, the politeness and customer service have taken a back seat...

sushi heaven is found at @sushihonba 🤩🍣🥰
i love sushi train, but the only problem is it’s getting so expensive… with the average price per plate ranging around $4-$4.2 at most places now🥲but Sushi Honba decided to stay at the lowest price that i can find now with $3.8 per plate🤩but! does the cheap price mean lower quality?…
in this case absolutelyyyy not!!!🤤🤤the sushi here is actually so much fresher and better than many other sushi places i’ve been to!🥰🥳due to the constant line outside, the sushi is so fresh and basically made on the spot considering the fast turnover~
the sushi here is so delicious and they do not skimp out on giving you huge pieces! the rice balls and slices of seafood here were truly so much bigger and fresher!🤤🤍🤩
my favourite sushi’s are the plain ebi, tobiko, and ebi fry’s~✨🥰the sushi in the first picture was a unique and new one for us, cheese and mayo seared ebi, very interesting🤭🥳
i loved their booth seatings as well as their beautiful plates, a super pretty and comfortable location✨🍣
conclusion, i highly recommend @sushihonba and i’m so glad that there is at least one sushi place out there that still has reasonable prices because i truly cannot justify paying $4.20+ for a plate🥲🤣 even though they are in the Gold Coast, i will definitely be visiting them each time i am over there🥳since they are so popular, on busy nights expect a 15-25 minute wait, they give you a buzzer so you can sit outside, time passes quickly if you go with a group and the quality of the sushi you eat is so worth it!🤤🥰i was super impressed and they definitely...
