"The fish shack" - display case filled with cold fryer trash like dagwood dogs and imitation seafood, maybe 3-4 things that actually came out of the sea at some point. Observed their "ALL orders take 15 min plus" warning sign while waiting 5 plus minutes to even start that clock. Love the pre-emptive "expect poor service and dont complain about it approach" rather than just endeavoring to be at least as efficient as a corner store in the suburbs. Attempted to order as the cashier strong armed my mere inquiries into purchases I didn't yet ask for, eventually had to specifically ask if the flake in the window was available with chips to put a hault to his agressive upselling...$13.95 for a piece of shark apparently 😂 Considering another one for my partner and a large chips to share would have totalled at least $40 and 15 minutes or more of my time to dump it in a fryer, I told them to forget about it and laughed my way outta there. I must have missed the meeting when they decided the most basic order at a fish and chip shop should cost more than most meals in a half decent sit down restaurant, it used to be a cheaper option for families. Some people dont deserve to be...
Read moreGreat place to share your favourite seafood with friends and/or family. I personally went for the classic Crumbed Cod and Chips and wasn't disappointed at all. Golden Crumbed and just a nice serving of chips. Cod was moist and filled with flavour. Mightn't be a big thing, but I liked how customers were able to choose/add Chicken Salt to their own meals. The decor and settings was pleasant with nice ambient music that filled the eating area (inside) nicely. The ordering staff were very helpful, friendly with HUGE smailes and advised/suggested what was good to have or what the recommendation was for the day. The seating was clean and inviting and the odd wandering seagull through the cafe, really added to the, 'by the sea' vibe. It is wheelchair friendly and the cafe has a side (smaller cafe) area that caters for your more general 'short order' meals. There is fresh seafood section to invest in, if you want as well. Toilets are just around the corner from the cafe, which seem to be public and cater for all that visit the local water park nearby. If your after a well priced and casual dining experience on the Broadwater, then give The Fish Shack a try, you won't be...
Read moreWe came here for lunch meeting up with our family before they departed back to Melbourne.
1st impressions, the venue was beautiful and well kept. Very family and pet friendly. Our server was welcoming.
We ordered battered fish & chips, garlic butter bugs plate, 2 corn dogs, Battered fish burger and potato fritter (they call it potato scallop 🤣)
Everything even the chips and the Greek salad was fresh and so delish!! Except the bugs. They were kinda old tasting not fresh at all. The only reason its not a 5 star today. Actually for not fresh bug I would give that a 3.5 but because I'm shocked at the current ratings, I'm going to boost them. Maybe it's the not so fresh bugs. But just don't order it lol the fish and chips was amazing!
The tap beer, pale ale rounded it all off nicely. We had an accident and a bottle smashed. The staff were attentive and easy going.
Great place to catch up with family - especially if you do geocaching. Were from Brisbane and well be back when we come to...
