This park is definitely a paradise for kids who love playgrounds because you can literally name all kinds of playground equipments here including the rare ones Iāve never seen before. Moreover, thereās even a water park called Aqua Park but you need to buy a ticket for that, which isnāt free. Or you can just build sandcastles and play with water on the river beach.
On the other hand, I saw a bunch of people having great picnics on the BBQ areas and simply on the grass. There are tiny lodges with benches where you can lay down and relax as if youāre in a sauna, and a large pier that has long benches with the most magnificent views and itās also a ferry stop and great fishing spot.
It has a decent number of pubic toilets in the park and if you are hungry, thereās a seafood restaurant and an espresso shop. The welcome sign near the front gate which is made of grass and flowers looks amazing and memorable.
If you are taking the light rail, I suggest you disembark at Southport instead of Broadwater Parklands because there are much more shops and restaurants near Southport station.
To top it off, the park is much bigger and more versatile than I imagined. Itās absolutely an excellent place for both adults and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a great area for small children and young teens, or adults wanting a picturesque walk. The playground equipment is varied and different enough to attract the young away from the usual offerings at community playgrounds. The walking path and picnic areas are well maintained and together with the great water views, make this spot a worthwhile place for both locals and anyone visiting the Gold Coast. However, there is one major drawback in that there is no cafe where one can sit down and have a snack or even to buy a cup of coffee, while enjoying the wonderful water views. This is a missed opportunity for a small but very much needed commercial development. The Gold Coast council would do well to promote or even provide such a development, especially as it markets itself as a tourist destination. In summary it's a wonderful little playground oasis including a swimming section, situated at Marine Parade Southport, but do remember that you need to bring your own...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat place to take the kids or go to a festival. Set alongside the Broadwater, and across from Australia Fair shopping centre. I go to Latin and Tango dancing once a month, at the stage. There is a fabulous water play area for kids, so nice for the littlest ones. Only one cafe. For older kids, there's a fabulous area with self drive carts, jumping bubble and a water park. Plenty of shade and picnic areas with free bbqs which are cleaned daily, but get in early. There is a beach swim area and room to kick a ball. Parking can be a problem on busy weekends. If you park by the pool you may have to pay, same in Aust Fair (free under 3 hrs, $8+ after that). Council parking across the road, paid during the week $6/day. A good place for a cheap day out, activities for free, swim and a picnic with the kids...
