If you're considering dining at this place I'd highly suggest you save your time, money and patience and RUN the other way. I have NEVER been treated like this in my whole entire life! I dine out every other night and have been to thousands of restaurants. I have NEVER ever been disrespected by a waiter, let alone a manager. And the craziest part is that it was absolutely uncalled for.
If you’re interested in the details, here’s what happened: For personal reasons, I can’t leave the house tonight, so I kindly called to ask to make a take away order. The manager Dave (not sure if they even gave me the correct name because everyone there refused to give me the managers name which is absurd to begin with) answer the phone in a very rude manner and all I said was “hello, could I please make an order for take out?” He laughed sarcastically and said “no, we do not do take away orders, we are a fine dining restaurant” (like that has to do with anything because 90% the restaurant I frequent are fine dining and I’m always able to order take away), I then replied “oh okay, that’s interesting, could I book at table for 2 then?” To which I noticed he had hung up on me before I was even able to finish my sentence.
For a person to claim to be a fine dining restaurant and aside from answering the phone rudely they also hang up on the clients face, it is a massive disconnect!
I then called again because that is quite absurd and I can’t even put into words what was said to me on the phone. He proceeded to talk to me (a client from a “so called fine dining restaurant”) like they where my sassiest family member, raised his tone of voice, said a bunch of things that to be honest I won’t even relate because all I could hear was him raising his voice and being disrespectful to me.
I then asked to speak to his manager since I had never been treated like that in my whole entire life and he tells me he is the manager. Im not sure how a bitter and unprofessional person such as this guy ever would make it to a management position so he could be lying for all I know. If he is the actual manager that is insanely scary! I proceeded to ask for his name so I could make this review and address this properly with his higher ups and he refused.
I then kept calling until I got his name and he simply ignored my calls.
After many attempts, this girl Katrina answered and wasn’t much help either. As I kept asking for the managers name she kept asking me why and what I was going to do. After much effort and after draining my last bit of energy I had after this nasty situation, she then told me his name was Dave. Which could also be another lie for all I know.
So if you want to have a peaceful nice dinner I would suggest you get this place off your list and head somewhere else. You’d be better off. I believe if you go to your local Mc Donald’s you will be treated better than this “”””fine dining restaurant””””. Ruined absolutely everything for me!
It’s absolutely saddening tans concerning how attentive you should be to who you hire to run your restaurant and address your clients. I have been in costumer service for 14 years now and never have I ever seen such a rude, disrespectful and uncalled for treatment EVER! Be careful!
**P.S: might I add that I strongly urge everyone to review the other low Google reviews here. It's clear that the only negative feedback consistently highlights issues with your staff/manager, as mentioned in numerous...
Read moreHave now dined at Glenelg twice and on both occasions our experience has been identical, which has prompted me to write a very, very rare review.
The food is incredible here. I’ve eaten at many high end steak houses in both Gold Coast and Melbourne and the steak here tops them all, which is why I returned.
However, on both occasions the service has been nothing short of shocking. Upon arrival, the ‘gentleman’ (who I presume is the owner) who ‘greeted’ and seated us is cold and uninviting, which I can easily move past if that’s the end of it. Unfortunately, his staff are an extension of the way he operates and the service continued in this note for the rest of the night.
After being seated for 15 minutes and nobody coming to introduce themselves or offer to take a drinks order, we flagged down an employee who explained she couldn’t take drink orders (all good, likely underage) and that she would send somebody else over. We watched her go and tell a colleague, who still didn’t come over so again we flagged down someone else 5 minutes later again and finally got a drinks order in. We asked for some wine suggestions with the steak we intended to order and there were zero insights offered as to what would pair well.
From here, we ordered a few different bottles, once the first was finished we again waited for it to be cleared and some fresh glasses for the new bottle to be delivered. This didn’t happen so again we flagged someone down.
Nobody gave us the time to talk us through the menu. Nobody took an order all night without us seeking them out. Dinner finished and every last scrap was eaten (again, food is unbelievably good), we sat with empty plates and dishes in front of us for another 10-15 minutes before again flagging someone down and asking for a desert menu and for the dinner service to be cleared. I understand if they were run off their feet, but a waiter and the owner were instead plodding around setting new tables next to us.
Finally, I would have been so so happy to provide this feedback directly to the owner when paying. However, he did not even bother with the standard “how was everything tonight?”. Instead, he just presented me the card machine which had tipping options on it and said “cheers mate, enjoy your night”.
Is a 1 star review rough considering the food was 5/5? Probably. Should any of the above happen (on 2/2 visits) when spending more than $150 per head? I certainly hope not. I want to come back again, and bring family and friends when they visit. But PLEASE improve your service, and the first person that needs a refresher is the owner, as I don’t blame any of the employees who just follow by...
Read moreI was really looking forward to something special, but unfortunately, this experience fell short. My wife and I planned a special lunch for Valentine’s Day and ordered the recommended Valentine’s Day special, along with oysters and a $70 bottle of white wine.
Right from the start, small details were overlooked. There were no individual plates or oyster forks, and the advertised side marinade was missing—just a bottle of Tabasco was provided. While we arrived slightly early, with only one other table occupied, we were seated promptly. Given the strong reviews I had read, I expected a flawless experience, but when the correct cutlery was missing and the bread arrived after the appetizers as an afterthought, I started to have doubts.
The ongoing light rail construction meant noise and disruption were expected, but with no tablecloths, our plates and cutlery were directly on the bare table with any dust etc from the construction. To add to the atmosphere, construction work began upstairs, complete with power tools. While I sympathize with local businesses affected by the area’s challenges, these factors certainly impacted our experience.
Despite all this, I still had high hopes for the highlight of my meal—the 500g steak. Unfortunately, while it was decent, it was only marginally better than what I can get at my local club, and to be honest, it wasn’t much larger than their 300g option.
For a total bill of $314 for two people, I expected far more. Sorry, Glenelg, but this missed the mark. Given the distance we traveled for the experience, I can’t see...
