Came here on a Saturday for lunch. The street was bustling with the local markets. Really enjoyed the Brookvale Union Ginger Beer on tap so stayed for a meal. Service with a smile. We changed tables for a better view when we sat down and staff had no problem. Started off with the Calamari which obviously had two batches served together. One cooked longer than the other. We appreciated the volume of what was served but would have preferred they were all cooked evenly and at the same temperature. Consistency is key with seafood. We tried two lunch favourites you'd find on any good pub menu. Surf n' Turn and Bangers n' Mash. Steak was decent and cooked to a perfect medium. Plenty of salad and chips on the side. The seafood garlic dipping sauce was a tad watery. Good size prawns but I can't say I'm a fan of leaving the tails on. Its nice just to pick up the whole prawn with your fork and put it in your mouth. No hands needed at the table adds just a little class. Bangers n' Mash hit the spot. Three big pork and fennel snags with plenty of gravy and peas with just enough mash to sop everything up. Fully sated. We will gladly return to try other menu items and enjoy the local atmosphere.

The Ambassador Hotel is our family’s favourite lunch spot. It is affordable, has lunch deals, friendly staff, great chefs and a nice selection. While also options for seating (if you are feeling like you might want to sit in a more secluded area there’s an area out the back you can sit aswell.) We always get a surf and turf (those garlic prawns are done puuurffectly well. Even the salad. I can honestly say I’ve never dived into a pub salad first, but the ambass actually makes their salad, it’s not something out of a bag. It’s real salad, chopped up capsicum, onion (worth eating) like they’ve actually gone to some effort for those of us who actually enjoy our salad. (THANK YOU) And their steaks đŸ„© For a pub. Ohhhh their steaks are top notch. Honestly.. their chefs are great. Recently I went to a high class place ($60 a plate for steak) I thought to myself.. ‘I wish I was at the Ambass. Would’ve been better value for money and.. honestly. They cook it just how I like it.’ 👌

OMG Horrendous , I booked for a birthday dinner for 8 people , 6 turned up , as you can see in the advertising it says Great Cocktails Over the phone we arranged balloons and arranged to take a birthday cake

We got there no balloons , mmm , but that’s ok , bit disappointed, but not a big deal we didn’t mention that

We had some Coke Zero and lemon lime and bitters and ordered our meals , it was my birthday so I ordered the rib fillet medium well , everybody else ordered specials off the board

I wanted a midori splice , the girl behind the bar said no she doesn’t make cocktails , I said that’s ok it’s easy and asked if she had pineapple juice. She said yes , I said, cool you can make it then and told her how to make it , she said no , I said what about a rum and Coke then , she said yes , I said so you will serve that but you won’t put midori and pineapple juice in a glass and a dab of cream , I said tge kitchen will have some cream , she said they do she is not getting it , so I said that’s ok , I will have an illusion that doesn’t need cream , she said no , so I ordered rum and Coke and my sister got a red vodka drink in a bottle

I said to my sister this is ridiculous it’s not busy there was hardly anyone there and quite a few staff

The meals came , I didn’t get a medium well rib fillet , I paid for a medium well rib fillet ,off the menu, but I got served the meat they put out during the lunch specials that is a much cheap cut of meat

Soldier on , time for the birthday cake , we asked if they would bring plates so we could have it , it was a cheesecake actually from the cheesecake factory that had been on the table outside for a few hours bit melted by this time , A young guy took it and went and got plates

When he came out their was nowhere to put it or the plates

I said look I don’t want to be rude but someone will have to clear the plates and glasses to make some room

He was lovely and did take away the plates and made some room

We looked around and the place was empty only 2 people outside

I don’t do reviews because I can’t be bothered I just go somewhere else

We spent well over 400 dollars last night on meals and drinks and with 6 of us and we all have friends and more family and we like to have dinner and lunch for birthdays Mother’s Day etc and we don’t drink alcohol but do like a treat and like to have a cocktail for special occasions

And we are never ever coming back here again and it wasn’t busy or under staffed , the young guy was l lovely but the other staff should take their attitudes home and stay there

We were polite friendly and happy and didn’t complain in what was a difficult circumstance for us , standing at a bar who advertised cocktails and being told no the girl doesn’t make them , she just had to take our order basically , in the end we made it simple by just wanting midori and pineapple juice she said she had pineapple juice but shook her head when I asked her for midori and pineapple juice ? I then asked for midori and lemonade in a glass , and my sister and I were polite and ordered something else , I didn’t know what to order because that’s what I drink , but we got a rum and Coke and my sister got a vodka drink in a bottle

There were other staff there and it wasn’t busy , and they charged $15 extra for rib fillet and gave me the cheap lunch special and that wasn’t on the dinner special board so it wasn’t a mistake

There are no excuses for what happened last night other than they couldn’t be bothered , they took our money but couldn’t be bothered

And we had plenty of places along the waterfront we could have gone and we are...

I’ve eaten at the Ambassador quite a few times of late. Generally it’s been ok, nothing exceptional but quick service and fair priced.

Last night was the exception
the food was inedible, I hate to say. We ordered the “special”. Stir fry glass noodles with King prawns and bruschetta for an entree. I was asked if I’d like the bruschetta to come out first and I said that would be great.

Unfortunately it all came at the same time. I decided I’d eat my main first while it was hot. The noodles were boiled, not stir fried and sure there were 5 or so small fried prawns in there, but that’s all there was and the whole lot was smothered in olive oil. Stir fry is maybe peanut or sesame oil, even vegetable oil, but never olive oil. The noodles were so slimy we couldn’t even pick them up with our forks!

Then I tackled some bruschetta. I wish I’d taken a before pic but it was a sloppy mess of apparently blended feta on sour dough, with halved cherry tomatoes on top. Drizzle of balsamic and swimming in a pond of olive oil. It was just a mess.

We just couldn’t eat our mains and scraped the mess of the top of the bread and ate that. The last pic shows the oil dripping off the toasted bread.

I don’t know what happened in that kitchen last night, but someone needs to hide the oil!

Won’t be eating...
