We were there for Melbourne Cup 2021 and pre COVID this was our go to place for the Melbourne cup event. Unfortunately, after this year, this is going to be re-evaluated.
I know that you cannot help the weather but a better back up plan should have been thought of before this morning. The patrons were split between the ground floor main area and the event room on level 1. The tables had no decorations, neither space had anything to even show that there was a special event happening today. In previous years there were flower walls, flowers on the tables, a stage for fashion on the fields etc. The new management explained that all of that was under the OLD management and branding and the NEW management ans branding were doing things differently.
Upstairs, the speakers were so loud that you could barely hear the person next to you. When we asked the staff to turn it down, we were snapped at. The race was going to be projected from a laptop which started to run out of battery which we had to bring to the attention of the staff. There was one staff member behind the bar who was doing such a good job and dealing with other patrons complaining about the unorganised chaos happening. This staff member was cool, calm and collected and was then given a new staff member to train in the middle of this chaos. She is the reason you are getting 1 star (she deserves 5 stars just for herself and a raise!).
The food...... well.... the entree was enjoyable yet forgettable. Someone at our table required special food requirements and her entree arrived 45mins before the rest of the table. The upstairs area had to wait a good 40mins for the entrees after the downstairs area had already eaten. The staff asked if there was any dietary requirements and a vegetarian option was requested for the mains. The Salmon came with baked polenta which could have passed for cardboard. The steak was tough and frankly, presented as though it has just been taken from a dirty diaper. The vegetarian option was horrible and barely edible, it was carrot, onion and something unrecognisable in a cottage cheese or ricotta (still not sure). Dessert was small tasting size portions of different slices, also very boring, could have been...
Read moreFirst time coming and likely the last unfortunately. Let’s start off with the good - the venue is lovely, large spacious dining, stunning views on a clear day. Relaxed vibe.
Now it rolls down hill.
Staff had the attitude of those who are being forced to work for no money. Honestly, I felt like I could have offered a day trip to the dump, and they would have taken it. No one has the energy or attitude to be there. Secondly, although there were vegan options (grateful) it was not a vegan alternative. So for context: the avo, halloumi on bread is $19. When you want vegan alternative, they just remove the cheese but still charge the same. Typically when you say vegan alternative, you replace something or drop the price.
I ordered the burrito, and it was just stale flat bread filled with avo and a few (yes I counted about 10 cold beans in total) and that was it. The wrap was so stale I just scraped the avo out and ate that, I mean I know avos are $4 in Woolies, but $17 for a mashed avo was outrageous.
I got the the ‘base’ after scraping the cardboard disc free of remnants of green, and found a cheese like substance, not mentioned as a vegan alternative, so naturally I was concerned. when I politely asked (yes I was bubbly and polite, scared if anything) if I could just confirm if it was vegan cheese I was given a cold eye roll ‘well I told the kitchen vegan’ Feeding dairy to someone who is allergic is serious and to get an eye roll and dismissive attitude was incredibly unprofessional.
Overall, the food is basic, the prices are too high for the below average level of service. Such a shame really as the venue is stunning.
Probably would only recommend for afternoon cocktails, ordered off the QR code so you don’t have to deal with the depressive...
Read moreBooked a table for Mother’s Day, they had time slots for bookings and we had 8-9.30am, first booking of the day. Meals didn’t come out until 9.15 but they did come out BEFORE our coffee’s, in fact we finished our meals, except for 1 person who was still waiting for their meal, and we were still waiting for our coffees, we ended up asking them in takeaway cups because it was 9.40 by this stage and our booking had ended 10 mins ago. Apparently they were busy and running behind…we were the first bookings of the day! We were upstairs in the conference room but found out all the food and coffees were being made downstairs which was also packed with people. Why wouldn’t they at least have a Coffee Station upstairs with such a large function and multiple booking times? Poor management. Coffee was subpar when it arrived, I had a Mocha and it was bitter. Eggs Benedict was terrible, McDonalds serve better quality food. Semi-toasted cold muffin with a cold slice of Deli Ham, unmelted slice of cheese and a tiny poached egg which was watery, the hollandaise was nice at least but they had obviously mass produced the muffins and still took over an hour to serve. I added a hash brown for $5 and it was a tiny triangle shaped piece that was 2 small bites. There seemed a total lack of management and foresight for booking out an entire restaurant and function room, they essentially doubled their bookings but kept the same servers and cooks…there was 1 person taking orders upstairs with about 20 tables, took 15 mins to order. Just a greedy racket to make more money but they provided the worst service and food I’ve had in a very long time. We’ll never go there again. 1 star is too high...
