Visited Shingle Inn today for coffee and cake with 3 family members and to say we were disappointed was an understatement. First of all we walked in and were barked at by a “service dog” that was definitely not a dog of service. We tried to sit in a booth close by and it continued to growl at us so we decided to sit outside the store which was disappointing because we wanted to sit inside and get out of the way of the busyness of the shopping centre for a bit. The dog should not have been in the store at all and I’m a huge dog lover and would never begrudge a person for having their service dog, but this was a pet who was acting inappropriate and should have never been there. There was no vest or collar to let people know it was a service dog so I'm unsure how the store would allow a dog unmarked inside their store. We were worried we would get bitten which is not acceptable when visiting a coffee shop inside a shopping centre. Service dogs do not bark and growl at people in that way especially when not provoked. Maybe sitting outside but not in an enclosed area, would be a better option with a pet. We ordered cake and coffee and the coffee was good, but the cake and caramel slice we ordered were not. The cake was so dry and stale that it was difficult to swallow and the caramel slice was warm and not fresh at all. My daughter thought it had been heated up, which would make sense if trying to hid the fact it wasn't fresh! Shingle Inn used to be known for their cakes, but I’ve had better from Coles or Woollies. I last visited a store at Maroochydore and was disappointed with the food and said I’d never go back. Shame I didn’t stick to it. The staff were so lovely, but it doesn’t make up for everything else. So...
Read moreThis restaurant is incredibly discriminatory. I took a client with a disability here and a man named Jolly tried to deny us access because I didn't want to purchase food but my client did. I explained I was here to support my client and that she has a companion card and that denying her access because I don't have money to spend is discriminatory. He then charged us for her food. 5 mins later he came over to our table standing over us speaking in a raised tone. He stated "you don't know discrimination" he said that I was "disgusting and aggressive". At no point did I say anything remotely aggressive or raise my tone at all. I was not the one being discriminated against in that situation which is something he could not comprehend. This poorly impacted my client. My client should be able to access community with support without hassle. The only person who became aggressive was this man and it resulted in extreme anxiety for my client. This experience was horrible. While he was being aggressive towards us I asked for a refund for food so we could leave and my client would not have to be subjected to that level of aggression and confrontation. He denied us a refund and told us we have to wait for food after he had yelled at us infront of everyone in restaurant. Numerous witnesses asked if we were okay following this event because this man was out of control. To behave that way towards a vulnerable person is disgusting. To deny a disabled persons support worker access to your restaurant because they don't have money to purchase food is discriminating against the individual with a disability who cannot attend the restaurant alone. People need to do better. Extremely...
Read moreMet up with my mum who works in the centre Tuesday 29/04/25 and came here for lunch. I ordered a blt and a hot chocolate and my mum a toasted sandwich, with the same table number given. After we had ordered and sat down, a few other people came in after us.
I received my hot chocolate, my mum her toasted sandwich. 15 mins later I asked about my order and was told it was being made.
Another 25 minutes later, still no blt. My mum who I came to have lunch with has finished her food, I still hadn’t gotten mine. I checked again, and was told it was coming. After waiting another 5 mins and my mum now having to return to work because her hour long lunch break was now over, i asked for a refund.
The lady who came to do the refund was extremely rude and not the least bit apologetic that I’d just waited over 40mins for a blt and informed me it was coming out now. I said I don’t want it now, the person I came to have lunch with has finished and has to return to work. Her response was “it’s been busy and she was on a break” said with arrogance. I felt like she wanted a argument and honestly, I couldn’t be bothered. I just wanted a refund and to leave.
It was not busy when we ordered our food, yet the people who came in after us, had all been served there food. And must of been a few as it “took” this lady quite sometime to find my receipt, as she had to go back through the people served after us, to find it.
Realistically making a customer wait over 50mins for a toasted blt, the whole order should have been refunded for the inconvenience!!
We usually go to another cafe in the centre, but thought we would give this one ago for the first time, definitely...
