One of the most unique fish and chips shops I have ever eaten at. Yabbey Road caught my attention initially due to its name with a large poster of the Beatles out the front of its shop but then quickly realised how absolutely packed it is with the line needing its own dedicated crowd control signs. The fish and chips itself were fantastic with awesome ambiance with the Beatles greatest hits playing in the background. You'll need this awesome ambiance because the wait for the food is looooooooong. I suspect this is not only due to the sheer amount of people there but also the quality control measures they put in place when battering/crumbling their seafood which was impeccable. They have a unique masshed peas which they serve with their fish and chips which I have been assured is a UK thing. Prices for the food were ok - a little bit on the expensive side but for the freshness of the seafood you get and quality of the batter and crumbling - it's worth it. Highly recommend a visit here, just don't come when you are super hungry as there is a substantial wait.

Tucked along a lively street in Redcliffe, this old-school fish and chips shop is buzzing with charm and the cheerful hum of upbeat music that never seems to stop. It’s the kind of place that locals keep coming back to — not just for the nostalgia, but because the food hits the spot every time. The fish is always freshly fried, golden and crisp on the outside, with tender, flaky goodness inside. Chips are piping hot and generously portioned, and the best part? The prices are wonderfully down-to-earth. Even when there’s a crowd (and there often is), it’s worth the short wait — the team keeps things moving, and you can tell they know their way around a fryer. Seating is simple, with a few shared tables out front. If you can’t snag a spot, there are benches nearby where you can enjoy your meal while soaking in the laid-back coastal vibe. It’s a slice of classic seaside Australia — no fuss, just good food and good energy. Perfect for a casual lunch or dinner after a beach walk, and a must-try if you’re after an authentic local feed in Redcliffe.

Was recommended here because they are ment to be British fish and chips, have to say I feel so cheated, the only thing close to British style is the tinned mushy peas. I went here because I wanted chips that were British style and not frozen, I placed a telephone order and when I got there to pick them up I asked the girl who was serving are they fresh chips and she said yes they are fresh frozen, I said British chips are not frozen and are made fresh, she said I have a friend who works in a chip shop in Birmingham and they are all made like this in England now and they haven't got time to make them fresh, I laughed and said no they are not at all made like that and she said yes they are, I actually couldn't believe I was having this conversation as I only left England 2 weeks ago and my last meal was fish and chips. To stand there and argue with a customer is bad enough but an English guy who loves British chips, she needs retraining, $62 down and a bad experience, thanks yabby road

First of all, credit where it is due. The battered fish and chips were a healthy sized portion and were really tasty. But, that’s about all that’s good.

If one looks around this place, it looks like the owners are milking it and penny pinching. The lady at the counter acts like she really doesn’t want to be there. Everything is an add-on (ketchup, tartar sauce are $2.50 each). There are no napkins on the table. Cutlery is hidden in a drawer and you need to ask for it.

There aren’t enough seats in the shade. It appears one of the umbrellas is broken (I wonder how long for). If you want to bake in the hot Australian summer sunshine, this is the place for you. (Any good proprietor would recognize this and take measures to ensure their patrons can eat comfortably in a shaded area – perhaps with a fan)

This is the part that really bothers me. Did we learn nothing from Covid? Tables are not wiped down between customers. I watched a snotty nosed child wipe her hands all over a table. When the family left, the table wasn’t cleaned. Customers are expected to clean their own table and throw away the rubbish. But, nothing is supplied for the customer to clean their table (no disinfectant spray or paper towels). I hope the unsuspecting next patrons who snagged the table vacated from the kid don’t get sick and have their holidays ruined.

If it wasn’t for the mass amount of pigeons under the tables (the rats of the bird world), nothing would get cleaned there. There would be food all over the place.

I would recommend the food but as a take away only. Deep down inside, I have a feeling this is what the restaurant wants you to do because you certainly aren't welcomed, asked if your lunch is good, or offered a clean...

I have been here previously when it was very busy and the battered cod chips and mushy peas were excellent and delivered in a timely manner. On 2.9.25 I went there and it was mid / late morning not very busy. I again ordered the same items, the battered cod chips and mushy peas. I had ticket order number 63. A staff member comes out and brings the completed orders to the customers and announces the ticket numbers. - 59, 60, 61, 62 and then a further 20 minute delay. I then went to the outside of the staff entrance and politely asked if my order number 63 was ready. There were a few completed orders just sitting in a row on the bench out the back and 2 people out back and 1 upfront. A person out the back looked at the orders that were sitting there and said here's your order 63.no explanation why it was just sitting there. Food quality - nothing like the excellent quality that I got the first time I visited there and ordered the same meal. Very disappointing- oil soaked soggy battered fish with black bits all through the batter - the oil obviously needed changing, chips greasy and the mushy peas were cold and had an unpleasant sour taste definitely not the same as what I'd had previously and very...

Absolutely blown away! As someone with coeliac disease, finding a place that serves truly gluten-free fish and chips — without compromising on taste or texture — is incredibly rare. I’ve been craving that classic fish and chip shop experience for so long, and I can honestly say this place delivered above and beyond anything I’d hoped for.

The fish was perfectly cooked — light, flaky, and coated in the crispiest gluten-free batter I’ve ever had. The calamari was tender and full of flavour, not rubbery or bland like so many others I’ve tried. And the chips? Golden, crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside — absolute perfection.

I’ve been to countless places over the years that claimed to offer gluten-free options, but they either lacked flavour, had cross-contamination issues, or just didn’t feel safe to eat. Here, I felt completely confident in the food and was able to relax and enjoy every bite without worry.

This was hands down the best gluten-free fish and chips I’ve had, and I will 100% be back. Whether you’re coeliac or just appreciate top-quality food, you won’t be disappointed. Highly,...
