Went here for a Friday lunch and the waitress directed the eight of us to two booths towards the back. Restaurants with booths remind me of having a milkshake with my grandmother when I was small, at her favourite cafe. It was a good place to sit if you like the smug feeling of eating something nice while watching people coming down a lane from the gym. The gym attendees probably saw me eating chips and a chicken burger through the window and feel the warm glow of righteous healthy living - so we are all winners. I could have ordered something other than chips and a hamburger but I wanted to compare it to the same meal from elsewhere. I had a drink too - no alcohol license yet, but they have applied for one, come on Department of Treasury and Finance, get cracking with those applications - and they served it in a heavy, ornate glass adding a few percent to the experience. The service was a little bit slow for lunchtime, but only a problem is you have to spend 1/2 an hour getting there and back like we did. The meal was well prepared, plentiful, and the chips were just right on the crunchiness scale. Quentin disagreed - not sure what his perfect chip is though, I forgot to ask. I liked the touch of whimsy given by the stylised dandelion on the wall. I managed to drop something on my shirt, and it led to me theorising that a restaurant which installed some sort of anti-gravity device could minimise this sort of thing, though this could lead to a whole lot of...
Read moreMy goodness after a long Friday night of crawling out of the abyss and needing something to fill that void in my stomach do I find myself crawling into this sweet little cafe on a Saturday morning. It's warm decor like the signal of the hearth through a wintry fog. Like a languishing spirit doth I need table service, and believe it! He sat me in the sun and gave me a latte to null my screaming skull. Timely and lovingly the most perfect cheeseburger ever prepared was placed before me. It towered, but stood on its own. Each ingredient placed with my sensory experience in mind, even the lettuce was trimmed to exact circumference. I left that place hopeful that things can be better, that there's always tomorrow's sunrise. No amount of Jager could take me to a place that Cindy's genuine customer service and cheeseburgers couldn't redeem....
Read moreI went for a drive with friends while visiting Hobart and randomly happened upon Dandy Lane. Despite not being full, we decided to roll the dice as the menu looked good. We were so glad we did, as it's one of the best brunch meals I've had in memory. I had the fried chicken benny and the cornbread and smashed avo were also ordered. We all raved about the quality of the dishes and the portions. I was disappointed it was our last day in Hobart, or we would have come back the next day. On top of the great food, the service was excellent, and the coffee was delicious. If you're looking for happiness in a meal, Dandy Lane is a great...
