The beer here is very good. It was a pretty busy night and the staff seemed a little run off their feet. This is possibly why I didn't really experience some little things you come to expect such as the bartender smiling when taking your order or the wait-staff asking you how your meal is after serving it.
Had the latter happened, I probably wouldn't be raising my following concern in a Google review. I would have mentioned it to the wait-staff, asked that they let the cook know, and left it at that.
The concern I have mentioned and am eventually getting to is related to the burger I ordered. I have to say that this burger was very tasty. I always order the cheeseburger when trying a new burger place. Meat, cheese, bread and sauce. There's nowhere to hide the quality and flavour of the meat in a cheeseburger; if it's bad you will quickly realise. But, as I said above, this burger wasn't bad. It was great, in fact. However, while nearing the end of my burger I noticed, while chewing, an odd texture. I didn't want to jam my fingers into my mouth and dig around a partially chewed bite of burger to find out what it was, but I had no choice in the end. What I pulled out was a piece of plastic that appears to have been used to separate either the meat patties or cheese slices. I'm leaning towards the cheese because I'd probably expect the plastic to melt while cooking if stuck to the meat.
I understand that it gets busy and that we all make mistakes. I make mistakes all the time, so I'm not angry. But I feel that this is a potentially hazardous situation and that someone less inquisitive and discerning than myself might not have attempted to get to the bottom of the mysterious texture and just swallowed the plastic. So for this reason I'm raising the plastic issue in my review.
I don't want to end on a negative note so I will leave you by saying that, although this brewery is located in a very old building, there didn't appear to be any ghosts or trapped within its walls. I didn't even once get the feeling that some tormented spirit was hovering about with...
Read moreTravelling around Tasmania at the moment. Have called into quite a few pubs and breweries during the circuit and managed to try all the more well known craft beers. Shambles stands out as one of the better ones for sure. My favourite is the American IPA, but surprisingly I also really enjoyed the big Porter Stout (not a fan of dark ale). I recommend trying the tasting paddles and making sure to include the American IPA. For food I recommend the shambles burger as it was honestly the best burger I have ever had. It was quite meaty and cheesy so if that's not your thing try something else, but for me it was a perfect balance of flavours - burger sauce nice and mustardy, big coarse ground patty, bun not soggy but also not too toasted or crumbly. The chips were unfortunately not good, maybe need herbs or spices, and the aioli was quite good but expected a bit more for $2. They have some options for vegetarian and vegan which were yummy. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. They did possibly forget my beer until I reminded them, but my order was a bit confusing and there were a few people arriving at once so I wasn't bothered. Once the incredible American IPA arrived I was in heaven. Truly one of the places you cannot afford to miss when visiting Tassie. Highly recommend. I'll be back again...
Read moreI don't normally leave reviews, but this place was so unbelievably bad I feel compelled to warn others.
I walked into Shambles Brewery hoping to try something new, but I was barely inside for a minute before the staff started treating me with immediate suspicion—for no reason other than how I looked. The workers were incredibly rude, confrontational, and flat-out disrespectful. It felt like I was being profiled the second I stepped through the door.
To top it all off, I managed to try a sip of one of their beers before getting kicked out, and let me tell you: it was terrible. Flat, bitter, and tasted like it was brewed in a mop bucket. I’ve had better beer at dive bars and backyard BBQs.
If you're looking for a welcoming atmosphere, decent service, or even just drinkable beer, look literally anywhere else. Shambles Brewery lives up to its name—what a...
