My partner and I are from Brisbane and we’re looking for an elegant place to dine Friday 17/03 as we were staying in Kingscliff the weekend. I booked this place online without knowing what to expect and I wasn’t let down.
The seating is beautiful and very private. It feels like you’re in a little romantic jungle village close by to the ocean. The lighting/music were just right.
The service was one of the two highlights. We were served by a gentleman I believe his name was Steve. He knew the menu back to front and was able to make some good recommendations as far as food and drinks. He was very personable and my partner and were so pleased with his level of professionalism. I even overheard the table next to mine making comment as to how good his service was. I’ve only seen service similar to this at other 5 star restaurants. The young girls working there were also lovely but we went out of our way to grab Steve’s name just so we could leave this review in hope the feedback is received.
The next highlight was the sirloin. Please do yourself a favour and do not go past this. I recommend the medium rare to rare option. The dish was absolutely exquisite. I have been to multiple steak houses who have not matched this streak. Yes, it’s a sirloin so it’s not as tender as other cuts. But what it lacks in tenderness it makes up for in flavour. It’s still a very soft and well cooked piece of meat. It’s pre cut for you to avoid cooking and making it very easy to eat and melt away in your mouth.
Also I’m not a seafood eater but my partner said the oysters and calamari were fantastic.
Great work guys. Even without the amazing food you would have gotten 5 stars because again the service was unparalleled.
Thanks for making...
Read moreI made the mistake of dining at Fins for my Birthday with my wife, son & mother-in-law. We were disappointed multiple times thru the night & were appalled with the quality & quantity of food. To start of with, the microscopic appetiser was literally 1/4 section of a Woolworths cold cooked prawn. Oysters were tiny & weren't served up on crushed ice, they were instead served on black pebbles.? The Fish for mains was a fish that none of us had ever heard of before. This is a seafood restaurant, yet it lacked any variety of fish to choose from. We didn't even bother staying for dessert, being so let down with the food, It's meant to be 'a la cart', but there was no table cloth. Mains should be served at the same time. Ours had huge gaps of time between each one being delivered, forcing us to each separately. Staff clearly were not happy doing their jobs. So it mustn't be a good working environment, if the staff have no interest in making a nice ambience for the patrons to enjoy too. They gave my birthday the worst dining experience in 49 years of my life & were the catalyst in me wasting over $430 that night. Others patrons were not happy & must have been even more upset, (like we were) when they got the bill. So that I was sure I wasn't the only table feeling this disappointment. We waited outside for the next patrons to leave & I asked them, "how did you find it?" They said, "Disgusting!" The evening was so bad & tainted in our memories, that we made sure we replaced them with brilliant ones the very next night at George's Paragon. That was a third of the price, had quality food with normal friendly professional customer service. At the end of our meal, all of George's staff came out with a cake & sung us...
Read moreWanted to join at fins for really long time. But unfortunately we never managed to have a day off when it was opened.
The place did not meet our expectations at all. Our waitress Katie was lovely and gave all her best to provide a professional and attentive service , the wine list was attractive and diverse, but that was all.
The food is average and lacks sense. We ordered some oysters followed by the sourdough which was clearly not fresh and still frozen in the centre. Followed by the bacalao bowls which where okay. The duck was over cooked and made not much sense flavours and texture wise. A cold lentil and unseasoned asparagus salad coming as a side along with an overpowering rhubarb.
Expected a lot more of the prawns being in a highly rated place because of its seafood offering, but again lack of flavours and seasoning in the dish. Miso rice cake was too sweet while expecting something umami to match the sweetness of the prawns.
Signature dish, Snowy’s fish was good, however nothing especial to die for. Flavours made sense and good quality but that is about it, something you could easily find somewhere else. The side dish Miso Eggplant was extra sweet and unbalanced, served in a “bath of sauce”.
This is only a constructive feedback and an advice for future dinners. Maybe with lower expectations we could have gotten through. Having said that, definitely not worth the money, completely overpriced and over...
