Take it from this Latina, this is ONLY authentic Mexican restaurant I’ve found between far north NSW and Brisbane, this place uses true Mexican spices, recipes and portions. We’ve dined at multiple “authentic Mexican” restaurants while on holiday, and have only been impressed by this one. The rest have actually only been Mexican-style inspired, but with recipe differences that devalue the meal that are obvious to Latin American born people. Our server, Rhani impressed us with not only her friendliness and work ethic, but also with her knowledge of genuine Mexican culture, art and cuisine. She had recently taken a trip to Mexico, and brought back art pieces. All of the servers were beyond exceptional, the decor wasn’t exaggerated and more akin to what you’d see while in Mexico. The food really takes you to Mexico D.F. We ordered the nachos with beef to share, two street corns and al pastor tacos, which they market as “pork belly taco” and I think this is a good and simple translation. The meat was very juicy, the pico de gallo tastes like from a street van in Mexico and it was TRUE Mexican guacamole we were served. Finally! I only remembered to take photos after the first few bites! The drinks were fabulous and the deck area overlooked a gorgeous view of Kingscliff. The goal when eating out at a foreign dish restaurant is to be transported there through the food and ambience, by employers and employees who actually love that food and culture, and love to serve you. Your goal is achieved when you eat here. Thank you Rhani and La Barrita for the incredible experience.

La Barrita: Prepare to Have Your Mind Blown. Mexican cuisine is one of my all-time favorites, but the quality can be a gamble. Some places are a total miss, but others absolutely blow your mind. Where does La Barrita stand? Definitely in the latter category. From start to finish, the experience was excellent. The service was super friendly, efficient, and our food arrived quickly. Unforgettable Flavors and Generous Portions: The food was brilliant, delivering on both aroma and taste and they certainly don't skimp on portions. For appetizers, we started with the Poppers and Patatas Bravas. The poppers were perfectly sized and stuffed with incredible house-smoked cream cheese. The Patatas were simply perfect: soft on the inside with a gentle crunch and a kick from the chili sauce. For mains, we dove into the special Steak and Mushroom Tacos and the Tequila Prawn Tacos. The steak tacos were jammed-packed with flavor. The prawn tacos were equally superb, featuring generously sized prawns and a sauce so good it will guarantee a return visit. The Perfect Margarita: No Mexican meal is complete without a great drink, and the Chili Margarita was our go-to. It was a great size, garnished to perfection, and featured the ideal amount of chili salt around the rim. Conveniently located right next to our hotel, the atmosphere was simply great. Well done, La Barrita, I can't recommend it enough!

We had dinner at La Baritta arrived for happy hour $15 margaritas they were ok just had the classic. The only food you can order at this time is corn chips and two little portions of salsa (tasted like store bought) and bland guacamole needs more spice and lemon or lime juice.we ordered our main course’s at 5.30 pm. fajitas beef steak to share$41 ( small portions to what we are used to in Sydney)comes with three soft taco size tortillas and the same tasteless guacamole and sour cream with some limp salad leaves. The beef was tender but lacking in quantity and the capsicum onion etc were stewed overcooked taste was very underwhelming unfortunately neither of us liked it. Why you wouldn’t just put 4 tortillas with this shared dish 2each instead of making you pay extra$2 is ridiculous. We also shared the street taters $22 after looking at the advertised photos online but it was disappointing as well the flavour just isn’t there. The service was efficient and friendly but We have been to plenty of better Mexican restaurants food wise than La Barrita, as a fully qualified Chef for 30 years with vast experience and taste it’s just not up to my standard, although I have noticed plenty of positive reviews for this place maybe we just got an off night from the kitchen.
