This place is incredibly pricy compared to other establishments in the area. But I get it, it's a large venue and they want to make money. But still when you look at the food quality - it's not worth it! All the food was rather boring and small portions. Nothing really stood out except the cauliflower steak That was yum. And the chips. But the worst of all are the burgers. The buns are cheap buns -- similar to a macdonalds cheeseburger. Soft and tasteless. Not even toasted, meaning they just soak up any juice making them soggy. and yuck. The worst, is the one I thought they'd make an effort on the most since it's got the hotels name in it - The Albion Beast. The pork was so dry and inedible. The beef was lowest quality full of gristle and no flavour - add salt and pepper to a proper beef patty at least!! Only the chicken was ok. The coleslaw was hardly present. I took one bite, took it apart to see all the above and straightaway had to return it. The lady in charge came over and confirmed, from what she saw she felt embarassed at what had been served. For this reason alone, the service is highly rated - but...
Read moreI phoned to make a reservation. I wasn't told we were to be seated by the front door in the bar area and would have no table service. My friend wanted to leave, but I felt that would be rude. We shared a garlic bread which was good, but we each ordered the pork schnitzel with caper butter, and that was not good. It was actually burnt to very dark brown/black on the outside, and hard and overcooked on the inside. It came with slaw - red cabbage with a little mayonnaise. We ordered a side of chips which was ok. We ordered sticky date and lime and berry cheesecake for desert. The sticky date was ok, but the cheesecake came deconstructed as 3 tiny quinelles on a little crumb with 3 blueberries and a slice of strawberry. A bit ordinary. One of the bar staff came and asked how our food was. When I told her the pork was burnt, she disappeared, and no one came...
Read moreHad lunch here today. The atmosphere is lovely in the old heritage pub with exposed brick walls. Our service staff were friendly and efficient. We had the pork schnitzel and the steak special. Both meals were very good. Unfortunately we ordered the chocolate mousse. Why are we always told on cooking shows to taste the food we prepare? To check that our food tastes the way it should! The mousse was a pale beige colour and did not taste at all like chocolate. The waitress was very accommodating when we complained about the quality of the mousse - she told us the chef was trying out a new recipe - mmm, new recipe or had they run out of chocolate? We were given a new mousse, which was marginally a better recipe but unfortunately tasted stale. Such a shame, as we enjoyed the rest of...
