Many details were bad, for example way too few bathrooms for number of guests (only one on our floor), extremely short reception hours, gate shut until 8am making it impossible to leave the parking spot early, etc. But the worst was the behaviour of who I suspect is the manager. After a very long drive we parked into the on-site lot, not noticing the sign saying it'd be closed until 8am since we were just keen to finally get some rest and we didn't anticipate such a ludicrous policy could exist with no early morning reception to resolve (our fault for gaving semi-decent expectations I guess). After seeing we'd only got 1 key for the 4 of us we called the manager to ask for another since the reception was already shut, and despite it taking many calls to reach him, this already irked him (rather than him apologizing for the delay), despite it being their fault for giving a single key and having very short reception hours. Fine. Then after having noticed the parking lot issue (as 3 of us needed to leave early) we had to call again: this time it took him even longer and when he finally did respond he threw a childish temper tantrum because we'd called around 10pm (so not even that late). Then he threatened to kick us out if we dared call him again for asking him to do what is supposed to be his job. Just pathetic behaviour especially considering his feeble attempt at a tough guy act throughout the process. The next day he offered a half-hearted apology which is appreciated (and the reason I didn't put 1/10), but fact remains that this sort of conduct is appalling especially considering our needs were due to their terrible policies and ineptitude. Steer well clear if you're looking for a positive hostel atmosphere.

I had booked two nights and was asked to leave after one. I get that some people may not want to hear the throes of passion outside my door, but anyone offended by such delicious delicacies as the Jordanian and Japanese man I had a round with that day, don't have to stick around to listen to be honest. I am an adult, and this establishment has only other adults in the vicinity. Even still I paid for a private room, and I have every right to that privacy, especially what happens within the confines of said room. The attendant did not give any reasonable grounds to remove me, and another female, who had decided to take up residence in my room for the evening. She had paid for her own room, but did not utilize it on this night because my energy was too delicious to refuse. He was very abrupt, abrasive and unprofessional in his dealings - I was actually quite embarrassed for all parties, especially the attendant. What a Prude! I would not recommend if you were just passing through for a good time. You might find their babysitter tactics a bit untoward, but hey different strokes for different folks. Workers or the elderly are more appropriate; especially welcome are asexual, as they will not howl at the moon at all hours of the night during a half waxing moon. It's more of a working hostel, that is a bit too strict. This was as fair as I could be in this review, because like.......

We stayed here for two days and it was an absolutely terrible experience. The facilities were in a shocking state of disrepair — there was no storage, no dustbin, and barely any functioning fixtures. The bathroom was particularly horrendous: knobs were broken, and even when hot water was available, it would randomly switch to freezing cold or scalding hot mid-shower. Halfway through washing our hair, the water completely cut out. We had to step out, soaking wet, to ask the manager what was going on. Instead of apologising or addressing the issue, he flat-out denied anything was wrong, gaslit us, and aggressively blamed us for the water issue.

The manager’s behaviour was creepy, unprofessional, and deeply unsettling. His attitude made us feel unsafe and extremely uncomfortable throughout our stay.

The kitchen and common areas were filthy — so disgusting that we avoided them entirely. The tap water tasted awful, and shortly after drinking it, I ended up sick with an infection. It’s incredibly disappointing because the location had potential, but the lack of hygiene, basic amenities, and the disturbing conduct of the staff made this a dreadful experience. I strongly advise against...

Edit 2025: A disappointing visit this year, they lost our booking but were helpful in giving us bed on floor in room. Kitchen and common rooms very dirty and run down. 2019: Great location, nice old building, friendly friendly helpful staff. Good rates etc. Only 4 stars on account of the kitchen which is very tired and needs some work. Also the couches in common/TV room are probably as old as the building.

Built on May 24th 1905, a former girls hostel. The room we stayed in was for 5 pax with 2 bunk beds and single bed format. A kitchen is a available, with the basic utensil for cooking and eating is provided, just make sure to clean up after. The dining hall is pretty spacious, with wallboard indicating/showing the many tours available. Reading room/tv room seems to be rarely used.
